I never ever read on Mormon threads on FR. This list is quite the eye opener. What are “investigators”? People who the missionaries are trying to convert?

That is correct.

Elsie, can you explain what an “investigator” is? I’ve never heard of that.

I think some Puritan lists from a few hundred years ago must have been similar.

Of course, there are some unique LDS aspects.

LOL.

...some of the evos would buddy up to you in FReepmails and try to get you to lower your guard and then find out who you were and stalk and harass you in real life.

What the heck is an evo?

“investigators” are people who are taking the missionary discussions (there are 6 of them) and who the missionaries hope to convert.

The list is from the missionary handbook aka the “white Bible”.

Missionaries are generally men 19-21 and women 21-23, while not an absolute requirement you are expected to go if at all possible (like the Hajj).

If you break too many of those rules, then you are sent home “dishonored” and that is a stigma that follows you the rest of your LDS life.

Mormon missions are very controlling. Although Binger managed to break a few rules and still ‘return with honor’.

Ping to 491 where I explain what an ‘investigator’ is.

I used to be LDS (see tagline) and am very willing to answer any questions you may have.

Because they are ‘investigating’ the LDS church (ie taking the missionary discussions that are required before joining).

However the ‘discussions’ as they are called, are worded so they only teach the basic non offensive doctrines (the milk) and rely on feelings a lot, and make them sound very innocuous.

Only after you are a baptized member (the do not accept ANY other baptisms) do you start to find out the wierd things (like temple endowments and ‘garments’ (magic underwear). By that time you are so hooked on the feelings and so confused that it gets hard to leave.

Although, almost 50% of new converts (5 years or less) leave. Most during the first year. But they don’t take their names off the rolls so the LDS church still counts them as members and they are subject to harassment.

It took over 2 years to get my name off their rolls and I had to eventually seek legal action before they would leave me alone.

Actually from I’ve heard the Puritans were a lot jollier than we think.

At least not anywhere near that list.

Sounds like the evil twin of evil Scientology.

We ‘inmans’ get a lot of gruff her on FR for speaking out against Mormonism, but a good part of what we do is to bring things like this to light and to the attention of non-LDS who have no idea what they really teach, believe, and practice.
