Why was Free Republic off line -- Hacker Attack?

Attempts to post to FreeRepublic failed, "server not found."

I’d say someone has it in for everyone they’ve misrepresented for some reason.

I’m guessing it’s to try to establish an off FR history which someone can refer to down the road if they want to get certain FReepers banned.

I recall that someone tried something like that with another FReeper I know. Someone used his screen name, posted some really nasty stuff on some really questionable sites, and then posted on FR about his (alleged) off FR/ online activity.

Nobody fell for it and it fizzled pretty badly but the perps did give it the old college try.

I didn't trace the originator of the link to that nasty site. I merely pasted the italicized link as shown in metmom's post #110 to which I was pinged. Had I not done that, I would not know that my screen name appears on that site. I had no idea why I was pinged to this thread, as shown by my first post to her: I merely thanked her for the information and thought she was referencing our yahoo site, which I visted earlier and posted there while FR was down.

I read the comments supposedly from metmom. I also read the supposed ‘little jeremiah’ comments. I know LJ and the comments are obviously not from the LJ I know from Freerepublic. What you’re seeing is the true nature of mormonism activists ... they accuse freepers of being full of hate because it is the mormonism activists who are filled with their father’s nature ... and their faking the names of Freepers in order to write nasty comments in their name at this mormonism site you linked to is evidnece of why their presence on FR is so disruptive. One poster over there, fproy2222 is so sick that the site is the only way the poor soul can dump the bitterness once displayed at FR before being banned. Lying for the lord gets co-opted to lie to elevate their egos. It would not surprise me if Greg West is posting under Jim Robinson at that site. Some sick folks over there. BUT, humblegunner did his ususal succinct exposure of their foolishness. It takes talent to do so devastating an exposure in such a short post!

Look --- before I attempted the joke, I had to go looking for the very thread which had the link.

I remembered you posting on that thread, so I did a FR search of your name, found the thread, went the the link at the heading to re-check things, etc. That's where and HOW I got the link back to the phony posting.

But then again, I had only scanned through that other thread after it had been up a day or so, and already had a couple of hundred or more postings. It continued to grow after that.

The comments at the Mormom-who-has-FR-living-rent-free-in-his-head page might have been posted after you, yourself had taken a look. I had assumed you knew about it, or I wouldn't have tried to use it. My mistake. My apology. But now you know, at least.

Maybe in a few days (weeks?) you could see the humor in it.

No, the yahoo site is troll free, as far as I know. I check there whenever FR is down, because Jim posts the reason and what’s going on. Tonight, I just happened to check it twice and I posted that I would watch a netflix movie. I am onyx_fr at our yahoo site.
