Gov. Susana Martinez on Tuesday took aim at the controversial Environmental Improvement Board, announcing that she was removing all members over concerns about the board's approval in recent months of what she considers "anti-business" policies.
The board made up of members appointed by former Gov. Bill Richardson was at the center of a heated debate last year over whether New Mexico should regulate greenhouse-gas emissions. The board ultimately decided to approve two proposals one from an environmental group that aimed to limit the emissions of the state's largest polluters and another from the state Environment Department that called for a regional cap-and-trade program.
Martinez said in a statement that New Mexico has been hurt by policies that discourage economic development and result in businesses fleeing the state.
"Unfortunately, the majority of EIB members have made it clear that they are more interested in advancing political ideology than implementing commonsense policies that balance economic growth with responsible stewardship in New Mexico," Martinez said.

The regulations were adopted mid-December in a last grasp by Richardson and his environmental cronies in Santa Fe to shove greenhouse gas rules down our throats and effectively cause power generation costs (from coal-fired plants) to sky rocket and shut down oil and gas production and refining with stringent CO2 caps. The board and agency did not look at the disputed science regarding CO2 and climate change, but accepted the claimed relationship as "settled science" and moved forward with the controls to be phased in over several years.
As with the Federal EPA, the state environmental agency and board developed and adopted the rules in spite of the state legislature rejecting similar efforts.
NM list PING!
(The NM list is available on my FR homepage for anyone to use. Let me know if you wish to be added or removed from the list. For ABQ Journal articles requiring a subscription, scroll down to the bottom of the page to view the article for free after watching a short video commercial.)
Progress for now will be State by State.....with California ending isolated.
At least that is the way I see it!
The board should not exist.
Government at all levels is wasting precious time and money on leftist agenda. Reminds me of the scene in HBO’s Citizen X where the detective has been reporting to an absurd commie committee that does nothing but hamper his efforts. At some point when communism is falling, he shows up and the room is empty except for Donald Sutherland, who tells him they are all gone and we can finally get down to work.
EIB Excellence in Broadcasting
BUMP for excellence!
Wow, is it ever great to see normal humans in charge again.
Housecleaning - - get rid of the scum.
OUTSTANDING!!!!!!!!!
Now this is what Republicans should have been doing since President Reagan’s election. The nation would be in much better condition, but the spineless, colorless Democrat-Lite men who ran as Republicans sold out after every election cycle.
Bravo for the new class of courageous genuine conservatives. May God richly bless their efforts.
Very good news. At least there are some who realize jobs and the economy are more important than the feelings of enviro nazis.
N.M. Regulators Decide on Emissions Cap (Last gasp of the Richardson administration)
It might be completely different if first there WAS a connection between man-made CO2 and global warming and second if anything that NM did would make any difference whatsoever in the world scheme of things. Talk about tilting at windmills...
Correct action, wrong attribution. She needed to say that she was removing them because of concerns about "insider dealings for corporate cronies with no real environmental benefit at the expense of jobs for the people of New Mexico."
Another GOP woman with bigger “stones” than most of the GOP “men.”
Does RUSH know they are using EIB? He should sue them to change their acronym :-)
Woot Woot!!!!!!!! Only her 5th day in office and I love her already. =)
Hooray!! Another female Republican leader with brass balls.
So true. It’s a shame that environmentalism has for the most part become nothing more than political activism. Those activists ignore good science and hundreds of years of hands on experience by many to further their cause in any way they can. There’s a place for rational environmentalism but sadly a good many supposed “experts” are not rational.
Great start, Gov. Susana Martinez.
