Bemused U.S. officials are looking into why more than 1,000 blackbirds crashed from the sky in Arkansas on the final day of 2010.
In scenes reminiscent of the FlashForward drama series, state wildlife employees were searching the town of Beebe after scores of birds fell to the ground late on New Year's Eve, continuing into the early hours of the morning.
High winds and tornadoes swept through Arkansas on New Year's Eve, killing seven people, and state staff believe the bizarre incident could be down to the severe conditions.

I thought the same thing - I wish they had not canceled that show - I liked it!
They’re not dead, they’re just resting. Pining for the fjords.
Death by Beebe beebies?
I think it’s the racist white clouds keepin’ ‘em down!
Hehe...
Take these broken wings and learn to fly.
Lovely plumage!
Gotta be global warming/sarc.
“Canary in the coal mine”
Just heard on the news that there’s been a bunch of fish found dead in a river in Arkansas. I thinking it’s bibical and the state of Arkansas is being punished for the “Sins of Bubba” (SOB)...
Fireworks can cause: birds and animals aka pets:
Fright, TERROR...burns and eye damage, death... http://www.stop-fireworks.org/animals_and_fireworks.htm
Anyway to pin this on SUV’s, globull smarming, the Tea Party, Sara Palin or Israel?
Racism????
It undoubtedly had something to do with the severe weather. The flock could have been caught up in cumulonimbus updraft, frozen at altitude then turned into avian hailstones. I know this has happened to some hang glider and paraglider pilots who were foolish enough to fly when the cunims were forming.
Now they have raised the number of dead birds to 3,000. Also a report about 100 miles away of 200,000 Drum fish dead and washing up on the shore of a river. What the f...?
A FReeper pointed out on a thread last night that there were tornadoes in Arkansas shortly before this “blackbird fall.”
Probably, but you missed the long-time favorite: Bush’s fault.
The performance of my new, experimental, “quad-barrel, zero-gauge” shotgun exceeded my expectations.
Tornadoes and cyclones are known to do this.
They suck up fish from ponds, and dump them miles away, when the winds die down. It’s not hard to imagine that a flock of birds could also have been trapped the same way.
Don’t forget George Bush! As certifiable moon-bats, we must ALWAYS try to pin the blame on GWB first!
