The total dollar value of the damage done to US cities by the War on Poverty (and its successors) far, far exceeds the dollar value of the damage done to London by the Luftwaffe in WWII.

There is a simple explanation for this.
We haven't pumped enough tax dollars into the city.
All the best cities in the country receive all the wealth transfer while Detroit is left out to dry.

This is what happens when Amish take over cities. Sad but true. Think I’ll stay out here in the country and let the big cities rot. Eff them.

What is so amazing in the photographs and videos on You Tube is these buildings were abandoned like Chernobyl or even faster. Libraries were they left the books - not like anyone in the city can read.
Offices in the office buildings were files and everything were just left behind. One of a local/regional stock brokerage. A dentist’s office. It is like people fled that day. Office buildings downtown that have been totally vacant for years.
Almost like a plague swept through quickly - aka the plaugue or liberalism.

The city of my birth. So very sad. I see no hope for Detroit. It’s citizens refuse to change and are too dependent on government. Once upon a time, Detroit was beautiful.

And this can be laid directly at the feet of democrats and unions. You should see the welfare you can receive in Michigan. It’s unreal.

Yes, yes, we can all agree that Detriot (intentionally misspelled) is a disaster. The writing was on the wall for perceptive people after the 1967 riots. And most of us understand the reasons for this horrific decline. We all know that the major reason is one that we cannot state, even here on FR.
Yes, Unions have been a major contributor to this calamity. You cannot have wages and compensation far above economic reality indefinitely. That's what leads to business failure. It creates a cost structure that CANNOT be sustained. But after talking to the average person, I can tell you what they will say. They will blame it on bad management and greed. It's the "one size fits all" argument of a liberal.
Or how about, the failure of Detriot is because we didn't have enough government programs and didn't throw enough money at the problems. I'd bet a years salary that is what the liberals would say about the problem.
No, I'm afraid that Detroit is a symptom of a much larger problem. We cannot begin to address that problem until we admit to it. I had a close fried who is winning his battle with alcohol. He told me that until he finally admitted the problem (to himself) he never got around to solving it. This is what we face here in Detroit. And Detroit is becoming a synonym for the rest of the country. California is next.

I don't think it is only Detroit. Look at the infrastructure around much of the northeastern United States. I went back to upstate NY over the summer, it was unbelievable in some areas. Complete ghetto, complete lack of care of maintenance, the trees and greenery looked like it was returning to the wild. I kept thinking, "WTH are you people paying nearly all your money to the government for, to live like this?" My daughter, 13, was pretty horrified herself. I told her, "this is what happens when progressives run things". Even the nicer areas were creepy.
It was disturbing.

It's so sad and disturbing to see what has happened to this once-great city in America.
Check out all the "Ghost Town Detroit" links you get with a simple Google search:

The Guardian is a UK leftwing paper. For their information this Detroit vision is incidentally the allusion of "Toad Hall" in Kenneth Graham's
Wind in the Willows.
When juveniles, those who cannot be honest enough with themselves, are in charge, things fall apart. Kind of like college sophomores voting for Barack Obama.
This is far over the head of anyone associated with the Guardian.
