Oprah’s Cable Channel Flickers to Life (Boycott Oprah and Her Sponsors)
NY Times ^ | 1/1/11 | BRIAN STELTER

At precisely 12 o’clock on New Year’s Day, Oprah Winfrey welcomed television viewers to OWN, a cable channel that she has said will espouse her “live your best life” mantra.

OWN, short for The Oprah Winfrey Network, flickered to life in about 85 million television households in the United States, replacing the Discovery Health Channel. It is the highest-profile new cable channel in over a decade, and it represents an enormous risk for Ms. Winfrey, who is ending her daytime talk show later in the year.

“Happy New Year,” Ms. Winfrey said, “and welcome to OWN.”

Is it possible to boycott something you’ve never watched ?

Good question. Hopefully a sponsor list will be posted as I won’t be watching.

We tune in about 5 stations and if they dont’t have anything on that we want to watch, goodbye. Oprah Is definetely one we will not tune in. Ha Ha. Someday soon she will have to depend on 10 o/o of the population to purchase her magazine & endorsements & guess who that will be. Not this Honky.

I was checking to see what was on and noticed that most of the shows are now being shown on Fit TV.

Thanks, I had not had time to check. It is now a favorite channel for me. I will probably un-favority OWNTV.

From what I’ve seen of the shows on the program guide there isn’t anything interesting at all on the OWN channel. I hope it flops big time.

Twenty-four hours a day of sanctimonious fatheads sitting on a couch seems like a hard sell.

I thought the same thing when I looked it over. I can’t imagine that this will catch on.

I was flipping thru channels yesterday while waiting to leave for New Years Dinner. OWN had some program on about a Black rap singer or something. I watched about 5 seconds of it and moved on.

Oprah's audience is predominantly female, white, and over the age of 55. She certainly couldn't have become a billionaire on appealing to those only in the(so-called)minority and/or lower/middle class.

2008 was a classic example of voter fatigue(mostly war/economy). The Republican party didn't do themselves any favors by selecting yet another crusty establishment politician whom their own base didn't even like. Bush hate/fatigue, much of which the MSM was more than happy to be an enabler, was like a disease that spread to other Rep. candidates(again, the MSM was more than happy to be an enabler),...CHANGE was the mantra that many serfs wanted to hear....damn the consequences.

The pundits on BOTH sides can spin it all they want....and will continue to do so...in an attempt to sell their point of view(and their books, newspapers, whatever).

Throw voter fraud into the recipe and...good luck getting rid of the entrenched malignancy.

Do people realize we now have a racist black community organizer and a racist black entertainer who are now the annointed Messiah and the worshipped High Priestess in terms of political and/or economic power in a huge segment of society?

These two false gods have a lock on the American altar of Mammonism and Propaganda.

Devotees, adorers and greedy supplicants alike worship at their feet.

They are Immaculate Divinities and their sermons and pronouncements remain above the stain of human error or amoral motivation.

Garbage floats.

Unless she carries Nascar, cars, football, basketball, quilting, cooking, Gaithers, GMAC or DIY, she won’t even get turned on in this house. With a few hundred channels on the tube that is all we watch. The quilting is mine....once a week program on RFDTV.
