2010 Pig Book Summary (snapshot of each appropriations bill and details the juiciest projects)

The Congressional Pig Book is CAGW's annual compilation of the pork-barrel projects in the federal budget. The 2010 Pig Book identified 9,129 projects at a cost of $16.5 billion in the 12 Appropriations Acts for fiscal 2010.

A "pork" project is a line-item in an appropriations bill that designates tax dollars for a specific purpose in circumvention of established budgetary procedures. To qualify as pork, a project must meet one of seven criteria that were developed in 1991 by CAGW and the Congressional Porkbusters Coalition.

The 2010 Congressional Pig Book Summary gives a snapshot of each appropriations bill and details the juiciest projects culled from the complete Pig Book

Two PIGGIEST OF PIGS IN CONGRESS ARE PUBBIES .. REP. C.W. BILL YOUNG (R) OF FL ((63 records for a total of $122,857,000)) ... AND .. SEN. THAD COCHRAN (R) OF MS (( 189 record(s) for a total of $359,852,000)) ....both searchable in the Pig Book database.

I was curious about how greedy Hawaii was with their "messiah" connection, and sure as shootin' .. big piggies:

~~~~
"Following the exit of Alaska porker extraordinaire Sen. Ted Stevens (R-Alaska), the state slipped to number four in pork per capita.
Hawaii led the nation with $251 per capita ($326 million).
The runners up were North Dakota with $197 per capita ($127 million) and West Virginia with $146 per capita ($265 million)."
~~~~~~

Ruling Class Pubbies and porkers = OUT!

It goes to show that it’s not just the Demonrats. Republicans are equally as guilty. TERM LIMITS! Two four year terms. Then they are out, just like the President. If they want to try again after a 2 term break, I’m ok with that because 8 years gives everyone a chance to see if they did well or how much damage they did.

Vote-crazed politicians set-up federal entitlements to get re/elected.
Phony do-gooders promised anything to lock-in voting blocs and campaign buck$.
People get used to govt giveaways and freebies, and want more of them, as pol$ pocket.

Vote-crazed politicians: "The more we spend, the more earmarks we get."

Confiscate their assets and garnish their wages to pay for their percent of any pork/waste votes going back to 1980. They won’t learn a thing without consequences.

The Little Engine That Couldn’t Award
for $465 million for the Joint Strike Fighter alternate engine.

http://www.cagw.org/reports/jsf-issue-brief.pdf

On July 23, 2009, the Senate voted 59-38 to eliminate funding for the alternate engine
from its version of the National Defense Authorization Act for FY 2010. The House,
however, included an anonymous earmark worth $603 million for the alternate engine in
its version of the bill. The House also included an anonymous earmark worth $560
million for the alternate engine in its version of the 2010 Department of Defense
Appropriations Act; here again, the Senate did not fund the F136. The final version of
the Defense Authorization bill contained $560 million for the alternate engine, while the
Defense Appropriations bill contained $465 million.

Texas Senators Hutchison and Cornyn had 70 piggy projects for a total of $127,051,000. Time to start trimming or off with their heads!

Ping your lists if you wish and start an avalanche of protest now while the iron is hot!

Kay has always been a porker.

She's was the Citizens Against Government Waste 'Porker of the Month' Dec 2009 (about the time she was getting ready to push her run for Governor into high gear).

In the 2010 Congressional Pig Book, CAGW uncovered 81 anonymous earmarks worth $6.5 billion. In direct contravention of the House and Senate rules

Thank you for posting this. CAGW is an excellent source and the best watch dog site anywhere. Hate to see the republican names UP but would rather know the truth than hide from it. Also, quite a few Tea Party candidates that are serving voted for earmarks. The list is on CAGW site too

The 2010 fed deficit was $1.294 trillion; $16.5 billion is 1.275% of that. Thanks STARWISE.

Remember, the earmarks may not add up to a big percentage of the total expenditure, but they're usually the bribes to get someone to vote for a big spending bill.
