"It's not the first time I've cooked for the President," says chef Alan Wong. "But every time, it's a chicken skin moment."

Last night, Barack and Michelle Obama, Obama's sister and her husband and a half dozen friends dined at one of the President's favorite restaurants in Hawaii, Alan Wong's on King Street.

Born and raised in Hawaii, Obama has adventurous tastes, says Wong, and always orders the multicourse chef's menu. Michelle, who usually eats lighter, joined him last night. On the menu:

I posted this one for many reasons... this is the main one from the last sentence in this article...Michelle Obama, interested in healthy and natural foods, raises bees at the White House and makes her own honey. She's gifted Wong with a supply of White House honey.

On the menu:

A trio of appetizers: Wong's seafood cake, a tomato with li hing mui dressing and Wong's famous "soup and sandwich," a two-color Big Island tomato soup and foie gras grilled cheese sandwich.

Lobster lasagna

Ginger-crusted onaga

The President's favorite entree, soy-braised shortribs.

And his favorite dessert, "The Coconut," coconut ice cream covered with dark chocolate, in a shape that looks exactly like half a coconut, served with a colorful array of tropical fruits.

"The Coconut"

Soy-braised shortribs.

Born and raised in Hawaii

And just a minute ago, I was on this thread and saw this...

His routine here in Oahu, the island where he was born

Holy Crap. I guess the presstitutes have been told and are obeying the orders:

Everything you print MUST state that Obama was born in Hawaii.

There appear to be reasons to suspect the Obamas' trip could have been done for less, according to Hawaii Reporter. "They could have chosen a less expensive and more secure place to stay such as a beachfront home on the Kaneohe Marine Corps Air Station – just a two-minute drive away from the Kailuana Place property where they are now," according to Hawaii Reporter. "The president visits the military base daily to workout, bowl with his kids or enjoy the more private beach there. He also could have stayed at a home 15 minutes away on the beach fronting Bellows Air Force Base as President Bill Clinton did."

But Obama and friends opted instead to secure use of three luxury beachfront places, including the “Winter White House” – or Kailua home that the president rents two weeks a year.

That facility, Hawaii Reporter, noted, normally rents for an estimated $3,500 a day or $75,000 a month, according to the web site Gadling.com.

The latter describes the place as a “7,000 square foot home [that] features 5 bedrooms, 5 ½ bathrooms, a media room with surround sound, a kitchen suited for a master chef, a dining room and great room, a secluded lagoon-style pool with tropical waterfalls and a lavish island spa. The ocean lanai and garden lanai showcase ornate landscaping and stunning views of Kailua Bay and Mount Olomana.”

I was asking myself the same question. She may not like chinese food, but they are trying to give the impression that she is a “dainty” eater, presumably to help burnish her role as food cop. In reality, if she really were a dainty eater, she wouldn’t be nearly as hefty as she is.

While she’s chunky, she’s not unusually so for a woman her age. Unfortunately, that hardly qualifies her for the role of food police, which apparently seems to be her self-selected job description as First Lady.
