In a new CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey, 49 per cent of Republicans said that they were "very" or "somewhat likely" to support a run by Mrs Palin, who shot to international prominence in 2008 when she was selected as Senator John McCain's vice-presidential running mate.
This is down sharply from the 67 per cent of Republicans who said that they were likely to support a Palin candidacy in 2012 when they were asked in a CNN poll in December 2008.
Of her main potential rivals, two thirds of Republicans questioned stated that they were somewhat or very likely to support Mike Huckabee, the former Arkansas governor, while 59 per cent said the same of Mitt Romney, the former Massachusetts governor.

What fun. Wait until they see the real front runner.
They’ve focused on Palin in her designated role as lightening road.
What morons.
The campaigns start next year and the MSM and the dumbocrats have completely missed the mark and continue to do so.
” Proves shes the one we need to nominate.”
In your dreams. She’s not the one.
CNN again?
I had thought that overexposure could cause Sarah’s luster to tarnish. This may or may not be evidence of it. Time will tell. Other polls will confirm or contradict.
Heck, REAGAN wasn’t 100%.
True there are no guarantees and 2 years is an eternity, but I will say this it is a damn good thing that the GOP did not take both houses and if the House can do the right things I think the anger will not be as intense for our side. Also remember this, Obamacare which is hugely unpopular will be thee central issue, among many other issues in 2012. I want to be wrong about the economy too, I graduated from college two years ago, I still don’t have a job, crushing loan payments and the stigma of living at home with my parents. I can take comfort in the fact that we will overcome this and we will prevail in two years, we need to make it happen.
Those numbers don’t surprise me because the Republicans I know are extremely split on her. Some are enamored. Some want her to go away. The views of independents I know, and those poled, tend to be negative torwards her.
Obama dreams of facing her in 2012. Its sad to say but very true. Given the choice they’d pick to run against Palin everytime. I doubt that’ll ever be a race though because i’d be deeply surprised if she wins the primary. Her support is a mile deep and an inch wide and a mile deep and an inch wide doesn’t win you the Whitehouse. It would make Obama-McCain look close.
One of the big things that made Carter a one termer was that he ran up against RWR. One of the big things that made Clinton a two termer is that he ran up against Bob Dole.
That they are! They should be!
Romney is the ineligible candidate (father was Mexican born, and Mitt is not a natural born citizen).
Romney also created RomneyCARE, imposed gay marriage,
and covered up the BIG-DIG.
Romney's Mexican father created Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac.
Team Romney threw Election 2008 to Obama.
Team Romney threw Election 2010 to Reid and Pelosi.
The nomination is her's, if she decides to run for it.
Excellent point!
BS “news” designed to create the effect the biased poll would suggest exists.
Mitt is a RINO hypocrite & the Huckster is well, the Huckster. A real poll would not find them so popular.
Oh yeah! I remember McCain well. He was the media darling. We can not fall into that trap again. Sarah should heed your advice, lay low, then come out with guns blazing. Regardless of who the GOP picks, the deck is stacked.
