Christine O'Donnell campaign spending under investigation by Feds

Federal authorities have opened a criminal investigation of Delaware Republican Christine O'Donnell to determine if the former Senate candidate broke the law by using campaign money to pay personal expenses, according to a person with knowledge of the investigation.

The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity to protect the identity of a client who has been questioned as part of the probe. The case, which has been assigned to two federal prosecutors and two FBI agents in Delaware, has not been brought before a grand jury.

Matt Moran, O'Donnell's former campaign manager, did not immediately respond Wednesday to questions from The AP. He said earlier this month that the campaign had not been contacted about any investigation and criticized what he called "lies and false-attack rumors."

The U.S. Attorney's office has confirmed it is reviewing a complaint about O'Donnell's campaign spending filed by a watchdog group, but officials in the office and the FBI declined to say whether a criminal investigation was under way.

It never seems to be an impediment for Democrats.

You are right.

Conservatives who commit malfeasances are forced to drag them around forever, like Jacob Marley's chains, by the media.

Liberals get as many mulligans from the media as they need.

I don't like this either. But it is a fact of life, and it means that conservative candidates have to be clean as a whistle. Bitching about it does not help.

The WarshPost article is based more or less on the AP story, and an earlier complaint by George Soros.

Well...well...well...that's the trifecta of liberal derangement: Wapo, the AP and the atheist George Soros.

She was so flawed that she beat Castle. Please stop repeating the lie. You’re acting like a sore loser.

You might as well give up, their is a certain segment of conservatives that lets things go as long as they share ideology. She has exhibited very little in life other than having a supposed conservative philosophy.

Why conservatives allow themselves to be defined by intellectual midgets I’ll never understand, candidates like o’donnell do as much damage to our philosophy as do the
castle’s Snowe’s Collins’ and Brown’s of the world. It used to be we were better than the liberal philosophy, where we stood on prinicple and we wouldn’t even support somebody like an O’Donnell but ok let her define the tea party let her become a media whipping post and drag us down. Other than philosophy what does she offer ?

Still, the WarshPost DID NOT put up a comments board and that’s usually a sign that they don’t imagine the story will last ~ but Fur Shur this is the TRIFECTA of all TRIFECTAs.

I hope this is BS because I gave money to her campaign. I’m going to stop doing that. I contributed to Brown of Mass.... and what a disappointment he became! These were Sarah Palin picks; hence my disillusionment with her.

Oh don’t be ridiculous. This “investigation” is being done by “the Feds,” i.e. the JUSTICE DEPARTMENT, or in other words, Eric Holder and Obama’s henchmen. They know they have to destroy real Conservatives and disillusion those who can be disillusioned. Don’t let them pull the wool over your eyes THAT easy! SEE THRU this garbage.

Christine O’Donnell continued, “Since anonymous sources are being taken seriously, please allow me to share some tips I’ve received and keep the tipsters’ identities anonymous. We’ve been warned by multiple high-ranking Democrat insiders that the Delaware Democrat and Republican political establishment is jointly planning to pull out all the stops to ensure I would never again upset the apple cart. ..

I don't think it helps to counteract "anonymous" with more "anonymous," especially considering the type of conspiracy she is alleging. O'Donnell appears to be somewhat mentally unbalanced, as well as financially.

She's absolutely correct. The Democrat machine in Delaware has tame Republicans among its number. Castle was their TOKEN Republican.

The Duponts can, themselves, squeeze into any office they wish, but they only do that every so often.

The Machine will do anything it can to make sure COD never makes it through a primary ~ and that means ANYTHING.

Agree. It seems she has been unstable all her life, judging from her poor financial record and bad choices in men.

There is a very real vibe I am picking up from some Freepers that the more naive the candidate, the better. I do not share that vibe. Being a conservative is necessary, but it is not sufficient.

Hmmm, the AP and Soros are owned by the same entity (take that any way you want it).

I agree that she was a lousy candidate. How conservatives can support a candidate only based on her sweet talking about conservative ideas without really look at her resume is beyond me. But perhaps for everything there is a reason. Her ‘role’ was to slay Castle, which she did. I never believed she’d win the general election in DE.

Ask yourself, please, why Palin and O’Donnell whine so much, almost incessantly? These gals never take responsibility for themselves, their choices, public performance, their knowledge or lack of it.

Yet O’Donnell apparently believes she has a future in politics...if only it weren’t for evil conspiracies.

Remember the legend of the boy who cried, “Wolf!”

O'Donnell may have convinced herself that she didn't break the law, but she clearly admitted to using campaign funds to pay her rent during the election. She argued that her home was where her campaign headquarters was located, but the law is crystal clear and paying the rent where you live with campaign money is not allowed, period, whether or not your campaign is located there or not.

I recall coming across this about a week or so ago, and that the response was that there were two adjoining places, one used as her residence, and one used exclusively as her campaign headquarters.

Yes. This is MUCH more important than prosecuting the control fraud in all the Big Banks, who are looting the American middle class with the help of the government and the Fed. Bill Black, who ramrodded the S&L crisis prosecutions, has leveled charges of "control fraud" in the latest financial sector meltdown of 2008-2010.

We'd better jail Christine O'Donnell!!!

My introduction to real politics began when I was 16 by working for a Republican countryclubber going around after the polls had closed making the voting machines come up for the Republicans.

I never got the chance to ever have any illusions about HOW IT'S DONE, and Fur Shur that's what goes on!
