I am partial to Macanudos for their smoothness, chalkiness, and general evenness of draw, but any Churchill costing over 25.00 should be a fine cigar with which to celebrate the new year.

There are a lot of good cigars to celebrate with. I personally prefer a hand carved meerschaum or briar pipe with some matured Virginia tobacco.

Who wouldn’t want to smoke a Cuban leader from a few hundred yards out?

I like the Macanudo Portofino brand myself. Or I will smoke the Makers Mark ones once in a while.

The portofinio is a nice smoke because it is a more slender cigar and doesn’t take hours to smoke. You can enjoy one for around 15 to 20 minutes.

Opus X, Fuente Short-story, Don Carlos most Fuentes are a good smoke.

Of course a true Cuban Monte #2 will do you fine for New Years.

I'll be doing it with one of these ... Montecristo #2 Habana. But, since you can't get 'em here, I'd like to suggest:

Padilla Signature 1932 Robusto ... about $10 - 11 a stick.

Gurkha Beast, 6.5 x 58. It’s medium to full-bodied and full-flavored. You’ll get several hours of smoking time with a large ring gauge to ensure the cigar never burns too hot. Light it in 2010 and smoke it well into 2011.

Being a pipe smoker, I don't know much about cigars. I understand that this is the man who knows just about everything on the topic. Maybe an email to him will bear fruit.

No need to spend $25 for a cigar as another poster suggested and price isn’t even a good indication. Illusione has a nice lineup and their #F9 is my favorite. BrickHouse makes an excellent Churchill for 10 bucks. Actually, the list of good cigars is endless and you can research what the pros think of them by checking the web for sites that rate cigars.

In before the complaints of secondhand smoke effects from reading this thread.

Yes, even here on FR there are devotees of that collectivist mythology.

If it's not Cuban, Arturo Fuente Anejo is the way to go for Christmas and New Year's, they are only available in December and are harder to get than Opus X.

I had to give up cigars a while back for health reasons, so this year I’ll just set fire to a trash can in my garage.
