While appearing on MSNBC's The Ed Show, civil rights leader Jesse Jackson called for a "radical reordering" of the nation's economy because, as he put it, "those, the very top are drowning in wealth. Its paper-driven not even productivity-driven."
He also called on the President to go to Congress and push for a "revived war on poverty".
In short, he wants even more policies designed to redistribute wealth, despite the fact that most voters rejected the idea in November.
Since President Johnson began the "War on Poverty" in the 1960's, nearly $16 trillion (in inflation-adjusted 2008 dollars) has been spent on means-tested welfare programs, according to a 2009 report at the Heritage Foundation, far outstripping the cost of all other wars in American history by nearly $10 trillion.
More is spent on welfare and programs to aid the poor than on national defense, and Heritage reports "means-tested welfare or aid to poor and low-income persons is now the third most expensive government function", ranking below Social Security, Medicare and education.
But this, according to Jackson, is not enough. Jackson agreed with the host that billions needed to be stripped from defense and other government programs and diverted to the poor.
According to the Congressional Research Service, over $200 billion more was allocated for welfare in FY 2010 alone than President Bush spent on the Iraq war during his entire presidency.

Ummmm.... Jesse, are you willing to redistribute yours? Or just mine?
Jesse is right, there SHOULD be a radical reordering of the economy.
And the Tea Party is starting that reordering.
Yes, Jesse, of course.
Hold your pockets and bags open while we pour the money in.
That’s really what this shakedown race pimp wants.
Jackson, what is it that you have produced?
Ever?
Except bull-Obama.
The national debt is $14T. Put those two facts together and think about it. Has the War on Poverty really helped the poor? Or, conversely, if we had no national debt at all, would our economy be stronger and our poor therefore better off?
Government is not the solution. Government is the problem.
Another poseur who never did an honest day’s work in his life.
The only job he ever had that I know about was as a waiter where he used to spit in white people’s food.
Nice guy, huh?
I delivered gifts and food over the holidays in a section 8 housing project here. The housing project is very well maintained and very attractive.
Of the several I visited, only one apartment was clean and welcoming and the kitchen was spotless.
The rest were filty, disordered and so dirty inside I couldn’t imagine why someone would deliberately make their life so miserable.
I understand depression quite well along with other manifestations of deprivation. However, this is 9/10s sheer laziness.
If the poor can manage to pay for that very nice tv, and the cable, along with the many broken and tossed on the floor things, they can get it together and do better without further coddling.
The only thing that Jesse Jackson ever ran is his mouth.
Radical reording of the nation’s economy? Jesse have you been in a coma for the last 2 years or on the mothership with EM?
This from a man who has never been productive in his life, since he makes his money by blackmailing those who are productive.
JJe a race pimp.
Rise UP Comrades, RISE UP!!!
This country is barreling headlong towards Socialism (the the very least) and Communism (at the worst).
When run of the mill dyed in the wool Democrat Politicians foment such Class envy the warfare can’t be far behind.
Take things from those EVIUL rich people because WE all KNOW that your are poor only because of their clever treachery!!! / sarcasm
If the present pattern continues we will completely destroy the job creation machine that comes from Free Market success and wealth, an nobody will have a job.
So what is Jesse’s future plans, to be the Commissar if Illinois, Chairman of the Proletariat Committee, sitting member of the Politburo?
Jesse the fool is still upset because the first Negro president is named Obama and not Jackson.
Also, if black people want to see who is the cause of their problems in life, rip the Malcolm X poster off the mirror and take a look.
They should quit bitchin’ about whitey and get off their dead a$$es and make something of themselves, as some blacks have done. Last time I checked, getting a basic education was free to everyone. And having a good attitude costs nothing.
Why doesn’t Mr Jackson lead by example and redistribute some of his ...uhhhmmm...’well earned’ wealth???
Jesse wants a race war. Of course, he doesn't realize that his side will lose by late afternoon...
Civil rights leader?????

socialist tool Jesse "The Irrelevant Reverend" Jackson

because, as he put it, "those, the very top are drowning in wealth.
because, if the truth were known, "I'm a worthless piece of opportunistic dung and in the past, I've been able to turn vague bourgeois guilt into gold. I'd like to keep doing that because it's easy work and the carnival side shows aren't hiring."
Its paper-driven not even productivity-driven.
It's greed- and laziness-driven, not even altruism-driven.
