New York - The former president of Shell Oil, John Hofmeister, says Americans could be paying $5 for a gallon of gasoline by 2012. In an interview with Platt's Energy Week television, Hofmeister predicted gasoline prices will spike as the global demand for oil increases. "I'm predicting actually the worst outcome over the next two years which takes us to 2012 with higher gasoline prices," he said.

Heard this many times over.. when oil prices skyrocket people cut back, demand drops and the prices drop again. It’s a constant cycle. Once BO get’s his dumbass out of DC then maybe we’ll open up all our own natural resources and prices will fall way down.. where they belong.

If TSHTF, people will just steal what they need/want, including fuel.

True, but they won't be ranging far from their homes by using up that gold in their tanks. ;-)

The supply of oil within the earth is effectively limitless!

very true. However, the LSM and the evil left has convinced a vast majority of people that we are "running out" of oil and other non-green energy sources. Our energy policy is insane -- due to the left and the gutless RINOs.

apparently this mutt isn't smart enough to understand that the majority of people can't afford $5.00 a gal for gas...

Oh, the press DID scream over $3-4/gallon gas when Bush was in the WH, because he was “enriching his oil buddies”. Now, when gas hits $5/gallon the MSM will PRAISE Obama for helping the environment by getting those icky cars off the road.

Obama blocks drilling off the coast of the US and in ANWR and then has his flunkies at the EPA declare that CO2 is a “pollutant” so they can regulate it, and just like Obastard said, under his plan energy prices will skyrocket.

Obastard will be viewed as pure evil by coming generations.

Where do you think the energy for a Chevy Volt comes from?

Thin air perhaps?

You think your electric bill is going be cheaper when the majority of electrical energy is produced by fossil fuels?

LOL LOL LOL LOL

The thing about it is the Rats DON’T CARE! Their agenda is to force everyone out of their POVs and into smaller, easily controlled areas, and to force EVERYONE to become dependent on the government, well, everyone except the ruling class and the elite.

This might have been asked and answered, but how is it that during the democrat’s majority gas prices are low and reasonable? Republicans gain majority and prices are raised?

You might recall that, upon election of Pelosi and her mad crew in 2006, the average price of gasoline was around $1.60/gal.

By summer 2008, they had it up to over $4.00.

>>>A lot of the people on this site who criticized the Chevy Volt are gonna wish they had one when gas goes to $5/gal.

If the coal industry is shut down by Obama’s environmental administrators, then the price of electricity that will drive your little truck-magnet will surely skyrocket as coal-fired power plants will be shuttered. Coal-fired power plants produce a large amount of electricity in US.

Don’t you wish we’d gone nuclear 30 years ago and moved to the cleanest fuel? Then you’d find a plug just about anywhere.

Possible. If this happens, we will have a deep depression. And there will be shortages in basic goods. The margin isn't high enough to absorb that type of inflation.

No, the statement is a threat. The man is threatening the President of the United States and saying....

Stop that crap.

If you don’t we will destroy you.

That is the message

It has nothing to do with global demand.

It’s the weakness of the dollar.

Helicopter Ben Bernanke is QE2’ing us to $4 gas, maybe $5.
