New York - The former president of Shell Oil, John Hofmeister, says Americans could be paying $5 for a gallon of gasoline by 2012. In an interview with Platt's Energy Week television, Hofmeister predicted gasoline prices will spike as the global demand for oil increases. "I'm predicting actually the worst outcome over the next two years which takes us to 2012 with higher gasoline prices," he said.

Sounds about right actually.

Cold Winter bringing up demand.

Absolute refusal by administration to allow drilling.

Speculators with nothing else to do with their money speculating on energy.

Government that endorses any and all reasons to shove it up America’s butt.

$5.00 sounds reasonable to me, when you look at the reason’s I have stated.. We will be Lucky if we can get it.

Should do wonders for the economy, but as long as Golf carts run on electricity, Obama wont care.

No. It’s greedy OPEC and greedy Saudi Arabia. The oil companies don’t set the barrel price. Neither does a cartel-ized marketplace. The sooner we take out the Middle Eastern caliphates that continue to hold the U.S. hostage to insane oil prices, instead of bowing down to them, selling them our best fighter aircraft, and pretending they are our allies, the better off we will be.

This is nuts! Real Americans will never stand for this. Even the dem-o-nuts will abandon their beloved ZERO if this happens.

“Anything more than $4/gallon will set the population off, IMHO.”

Maybe I’m seeing black helicopters, I don’t know. But it just seems like it’s one more thing to try and restrict travel. The government is trying (or with this new law actually already has) to get control of the food supply. They’ve got control of the health care system, they’re grabbing control of the internet etc.etc.. Is it me?

You’re joking, right?
Cause if fuel goes up to $4, other prices have to increase to offset the input costs rising.
Greed is another matter altogether.

Locally the price of Gas jumped 17 cents overnight. It went from $3.02 last night to $3.19 this morning.

Well, yeah!

The constant debasement of our dollar means that all imported goods cost more. And thanks to our glorious government, most of our oil is imported.

Now, if you measure the value of oil against the value of gold, you’d see a different story.

When that happens guess what? All those local/state/federal gas taxes will drop like the proverbial stone. Lets see how loud they yell over that.

$4 does appear to be the “tipping point” for most people.
That’s where they start getting really mad.

I forgot the anti-nuclear lobby and the environmentalists who share a large part of the blame for where we are on energy today. We have both hands tied behind our backs: On the one hand, we refuse to drill domestically, and on the other we refuse to use the nuclear technology we pioneered so many years ago, to wean us from our fatal dependence upon our enemies in the Middle East and South America for the oil that our oil companies must purchase.

Its all about control. That, and most of these people are shills for OPEC. Nothing they are doing will reduce demand for transportation fuels, they just reduce the availability of non-OPEC fuels.

Their increased control of the resource increases the profits to OPEC. It doesn’t really affect the oil companies one way or the other; they can drill here and pay royalties to the US government, or they can drill someplace else and pay royalties to that government. They are in the business of drilling for whoever wants them to drill and will pay their fee. It can be us, and we can reap the benefit of jobs and royalties to the national treasury, or it can be someone else who will reap the same benefit for themselves.

Its crazy for a country like ours to wallow in bankruptcy and not develop its own resources, and pay half a trillion to OPEC instead, but thats where we are at.

It’s three bucks a gallon now and I’ve been angry since it went to two. Why are we allowing the Middle East to treat us like a bunch of frogs in a kettle of water while they keep turning up the temperature on us little by little?

“Drill here, drill now” wins it.

The Republicans should start discussing this likely hood now.

If it’s you, it’s me, too.

But I’m the guy that connects CAFE standards (smaller cars) and child carseat requirements (larger “footprint” per child) with the population control agenda.
