WASHINGTON Senator Scott Browns decision to buck his party leadership in recent days on the dont ask, dont tell military policy and on a nuclear arms treaty has set off a new wave of anger among some of the activists who helped elect him and renewed talk among conservatives that he might face a primary challenge.
Tweet 1diggdiggYahoo! Buzz ShareThis Some Tea Party movement leaders who dislike Browns votes acknowledge that the Massachusetts Republican has demonstrated his independent and pragmatic streak, and by doing so may strengthen his chances at reelection in 2012. No primary challenger has emerged, and it is unclear whether a newcomer could wage a serious fight against Brown and his $6.8 million war chest.
But the threat of a primary challenge from conservatives as well as the potential that national Tea Party groups will withhold financial support appears to have grown, according to the movements activists. Browns votes in the past week follow his crucial support for the overhaul of financial regulations, which remains a particular sore point with conservatives.
I think that there will be a primary challenge, said Christen Varley, president of the Greater Boston Tea Party. Theres enough of an underground movement in the Tea Party movement as seeing him as not being conservative enough. There probably will be multiple people who attempt to run against him.
Varley said it is too early to name a possible opponent, and she acknowledged that Browns campaign war chest and statewide organization would probably be enough to fend off an opponent. But if Brown has to devote energy and resources to a primary campaign, it could put him at a greater disadvantage in a general election in which...

Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year, to all on FR!
“but seeing a guy like bama get elected and people like reid reelected etd really does not sit well with me.”
Your attitude is what created Gen Washington’s Colonial Army in 1776. Welcome to the fight.
Merry Christmas, GlockTheVote.
The folks that voted for you 11 months ago...
Remember them?
We remember you.
You're out.
It did not have to be this way.
Maye you'll get to stay in, but you have lost the hearts and minds of many of us who put you in office in the first place.
Do you really think that the folks who did not vote for you in January 2010 are going to vote for you in 2012 after your votes in the Senate this year?
Wishful thinking!
Maybe you confuse what you would like to see with what you claim is the best that can happen for the marxist state of Massachusetts? Of course if you are really happy to just worry about the checkbook while the principles that premise our founding and society get flushed down the toilet that is your choice.
The Tea Party movement's success on November 2nd was due to mainly focusing on the bolded part of my statement. I don't want to mess with success. Conflict over social issues on the right needs to be resolved in the primaries. Getting our economic house in order is job# 1. $13 - $14 trillion in national debt and unfunded liabilities for multiple times that number is simply absurd. The potential for economy wrecking Wiemar Republic inflation is staring us in the face. Don't make unwarranted assumptions. Happy New Year!
here, I dont know why you so in love with this idiot RINO but here’s the latest FR post for today about your RINO AND THE many fREEPERS who share my disgust for your boy..

why doesnt he just switch to Dumocrat and get it over with?
Brown is done, he will lose his seat to a liberal. There is no such thing as a republican or a conservative from Massachusetts. Brown won Ted Ks seat because of disgruntled moderates and a poor liberal opponent, not because of any republicans or conservatives. What he should do is switch to the libertarian party and eat some Gefilte fish with Joe!
I make no assumptions. From what I see RINO Brown voted Republican on the checkbook issue he voted leftist on what some claim the 'irrlevant' moral issue YET the Tea Party is not happy.
I would suggest this story regarding reactions and the reactions from the majority here at FR mirror what the grassroots Tea Party people feel about these moral issues -they are important...
Simply put -a house divided will fall. One can not on hand hand balance their checkbook while on the other hand bankrupt the morality of society. THAT is the libertarian position -and that is anarchy --there is a reason they are irrelevant. Far right anarchy is just as bad as far left tyranny. Our Republic must get back to its roots which are centered from either extreme. This is about far more than money...

If I had to add anything for general elections, it would be rat voter fraud and national security incompetence.Phony candidates illegally fielded by 'Rats have to be a priority in the primaries, and we need to be as nasty as necessary to eliminate that. Anyone from the Demwits connected to phony candidates running as Pubbies need to see serious prison time, or failing that, well, anyway...
Never forget that Browns win was a huge turning in the worship of P-Zero. Brown was just a stepping stone in where we are now in the Conservative movement. He needs to be tossed and as others have posted he’s no different then a dem. His purpose has been served and people who don’t see politics as a battlefield full of imperfections need to wake-up.
See comment# 25. In Maine, more than half the registered voters are independents, about 38 % are rats and about 11 % GOP. If you want to see Brown replaced by a Ted Kennedy clone, be my guest. I'll hold my nose for the time being. IMHO, the time to primary Brown is when we have 67 conservatives pubbies in the Senate. We'll be lucky to have 60 in 2014. Snowe and Collins would be much better candidates for a primary challenge. Maine now has a GOP governor and legislature.
I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss libertarians. Small 'l' libertarians are 10 - 15 % of the electorate. After all of the damage the rats have caused, many of them would like to make common cause with conservatives to defeat the rats, at least while the economy is a mess.
I meant: In Massachusetts, more than half the registered voters are independents...
Why can’t there be DIMOs? (democrats in name only?) Oh wait b/c it’s correct to be politically correct.
Poll: Majority favor abortion funding ban
Michelle Malkin: The ACLUs Unholy War on Catholic Hospitals
I rarely have problems with social conservatives. I'd like the Tea Party pols to basically stick to their original message, but be able to hammer the left when they inevitably try their cultural overreach such as their attack on the Catholic Church or their backdoor approach to implement "death panels."
I want common cause with the greatest number of voters. While the number of self described conservatives, 42 %, is more than self described liberals, 20%, the remaining "moderates" and "independents" wreaked havoc in 2006 and 2006. The left is attacking on many fronts. We need to do the same, IMHO.
In my opinion, the checkbook issues are but symptoms of the underlying rot. In essence, the government is going broke not because it likes spending money but because it invests in that which is morally bankrupt. A miraculous cash infusion or balancing of the checkbook only treats the symptoms and does nothing to reverse the disease and heal the patient...
The leftists are not pushing spending for the sake of spending -they push immoral issues and programs that happen to cost money, that happen to destroy wealth creation, and happen to bankrupt us -these areas must be addressed.
Republicans stopped Amnesty.
Scott Brown voted against the Dream act. But you'd rather a democrat in liberal Massachusetts.
You are on ignore. You make no sense as is typical of democrats.
But he did vote for fags in the military and START which YOU put your self on ignore..as you stated.
I am so sick of hearing people say...it’s MA...this is the best we can do...
Horse Hockey!!!
Scott Brown told people a different story to get elected and then his actions are just like any progressive exactly what needs to be done to bring down this country.
The situation isn’t about Scott Brown being a liberal or not...it is about him being a progressive.
We need to find a solid candidate who isn’t a PROGRESSIVE and I think MA can do that. Someone needs to stand up, be heard and they will get support.
We are coming down to the wire here in this country and now people WILL be forced to make a choice. Either you believe in the idea of America and divine providence...or you believe in one world government and we are just under revenue channel for the UN’s wealth redistribution program.
So let’s all focus on making the argument about a choice, a choice between two paths. Once we all choose end-game will begin in earnest and with Faith and true Hope with a lot of sweat we can turn back the past 100+ years of progressive evil in this country.
He told the same story then that he tells now.
Charlie Brown and Lucy, holding the football for Charlie to kick, pulling the ball out from under his foot every time, causing Charlie to slip on his ass again. And every time, poor Charlie trusts her again and again, only to have the same thing happen over and over again, in hopes that this time it will be different.
This is the best way to describe the “He's the best we can hope to get at the moment.” excuse. OR the “At least he votes with us half of the time, which sure beats a Liberal Democrat from the same district!”
What was that definition of insanity again? (They can never remember.)
