DOVER One national columnist has speculated New Hampshire's own Judd Gregg, who recently retired after three terms in the U.S. Senate, is considering a run for the presidency in 2012.
Jonah Goldberg, editor-at-large of National Review Online, cites the Republican as acting like he's not running "but hasn't ruled it out."
As Gregg's term wraps up and the holidays approach, no one is available to take calls at his offices throughout the state and in Washington, D.C.
The listed phone number for Gregg's home in Rye has been temporarily disconnected, according to a recording.
Republican Strategist Mike Dennehy said speculation about Gregg running for president might be "wishful thinking" because of what he accomplished in the Senate, and since he had retired from that post, this would be a way to continue his career.
But an online search of "Gregg for President" does yield several results mostly speculation from various news agencies that peg the senator as a shoo-in, should he choose to run officially.

He is the definition of squishy. No thanks. Go get a real job.
Sure the Dems would love a RINO running as the Republican Candidate.
Look at his lame duck voting record.
About 5 Pubbie RINOs on my table need to be removed....
He’d have a good chance in the New Hampshire primary, but then it would be all over.
He’d really hurt Mittens in NH.
Anyone who is actually a possibility has been spending money and lining up allies for a long time now. That is Palin and Romney primarily. No one else is serious. That could change if something knocks Palin or Romney out of contention, like health problems or an accident.
"Vote for me or I will make a sequel!"
Why would a career legislator be qualified to hold an executive office?
McCain had far less money than either Rudy or Romney.
A conservative will enter the race.
Not sure. Some folks think a 1/2 term governor is qualified.
I would love to see him run, something to split the Democrat vote with Romney in the Republican primaries. The problem is that he could be a factor in the first one but would diminish rapidly after that. We need serious competition for Romney in order to neutralize the Democrats.
Romney already has “health” problems (RomneyCare).
18 years in the Senate, and no national name recognition? Sounds like a joke.
FWIW.
Well if he helps take out Mitt in NH, it may be of some worth.
It is too late for anyone who is not already in the race. Barring accident or massive bad health the Republican contest is between the Conservative Palin and the Democrat Romney.
John McCain redux, NO Thanks
