Melee reported at 2 malls in lines for shoes

Police have been sent to a Houston-area mall after some of the hundreds of shoppers apparently became unruly while they waited outside to buy new Nike Air Jordan shoes, officials said today.

The police were dispatched to Deerbrook Mall in the 20000 block of U.S. 59 in Humble about 6 a.m. Shoppers had lined up before dawn to buy the new-model shoes named for former basketball star Michael Jordan, officials said. Some of them appeared to be unruly.

Also today, Houston police were called to a disturbance as Air Jordans went on sale at the Northline Mall.

More than 500 people lined up outside the Deerbrook Mall. According to reports, so many people came out that a fight broke out when some were apparently trying to get ahead in line.

One shopper told Eyewitness News the new Air Jordans are on sale at Finish Line and Foot Locker and that is what they are all hoping to grab when stores open. It appears that everyone who was lined up inside the mall were all sent outside. Authorities are now blocking all entrances of the mall.

So far there are no reports of any injuries. Multiple Harris County sheriff's deputies and Precinct 4 deputies converged on the mall, trying to keep everyone in order

To make this a communist country, the left first has to make it a self-absorbed materialist country. I’d say they have been successful in their quest.

Interesting word choice here... no intention to purchase?

I wonder how many of those waiting to buy expensive shoes are on some form of public assistance?

It would be easier to guess how many aren’t on the public dole.

Evidently all those waiting to buy or grab shoes do not have to go to work today.

Merry Christmas.

From the article: We heard a few people were able to purchase the $175 pair of shoes before Foot Locker closed until later today.

I didn't know the Amish was getting that kind of money from Obama's stash and besides the shoes will get squishy in the cow pasture.

I guess the Amish have not been hit as hard by the ‘Great Recession’ as the rest of us.

Some people have nothing better to do than cause trouble over shoes?

And of course, no details on the trouble makers... Must have been some wayward Scientologists....

I bought a pair of Air Jordans from a church sale for 50 cents.

I’m glad that some idiots are willing to blow 200.00 for shoes so I can enjoy them later on.

And does anyone find it odd that people are buying expensive shoes named for a guy that is middle-aged, out of shape, and hasn’t played basketball in a decade?
