Strategy: The heirs of Ronald Reagan abandon his legacy and dream of defending America from nuclear attack. Our security will rest on ambiguous language and vague assurances, not on the genius of U.S. technology.
Peace in our time, or should we say appeasement in our time, as a sufficient number of GOP senators signed on the New START treaty to give the Democrats and President Obama the 67 votes needed for ratification.
The Hill reported that Sen. Johnny Isakson, R-Ga., became the 10th Republican to support the treaty on Monday. Sen. Scott Brown, R-Mass., was No. 9, saying on Monday afternoon, "I believe it's something important for our country and I believe it's a good move forward."
Outgoing Sen. George Voinovich, R-Ohio, says he supports the treaty as does another lame duck, Sen. Robert Bennett, R-Ohio, who said a letter from President Obama brought him on board.
Obama sent a letter to Senate Minority leader Mitch McConnell on Saturday assuring him that we "will continue to develop and deploy effective missile defenses to protect the United States."
That letter needs to be sent to Medvedev and Putin, not to the U.S. Senate, for that is not the Russian understanding. "Russia will have the right to opt out of the treaty if ... the U.S. strategic missile defense begins to significantly affect the efficiency of Russian strategic nuclear forces," Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on April 6.

If the Russians bomb these GOP senators, they will have earned it!
While on balance I think this is a bad thing, I think it’s impact is somewhat overstated.
We still will have 1550 nukes, more than enough to do damage. Besides, does any Freeper ever believe we’d actually use even 1 nuclear weapon? Ever? I don’t. Only unless we were nuked first, even then it’d be iffy. I doubt for example that Obama would nuke anyone, even if they nuked us first.
The bigger issue imho is that we don’t even know if any of our nukes still work. We haven’t tested any in 20 yrs. They’re just sitting around. I think it’s way more important to make sure what we have still works then worrying about getting rid of a few hundred.
It’s not 1985 anymore. Russian ICBMs aren’t our biggest threat. This treaty has no effect at all when it comes to going after AQ or other jihadists. Good or bad. Maybe Russia will be more cooperative against Iran after this passes. I doubt it, but who knows?
In any event, this isn’t really an issue that the public cares about one way or the other.(Just as they never cared about missile defense when W pushed it). There are many other areas in defense/natl secuirty where Obama is vulnerable. I’d focus on those if I were the GOP
These international problems are creeping up everywhere because everyone knows Obama is a (you fill in the word).
You can take a piece and paint over it with whatever you'd like, and it will fit in it's proper place, but it takes away from the picture.
They didn’t just cave. They helped write the New START ratification legislation and a few are co-sponsors!
"Heavy ICBM" refers to a class of missiles with a heavy throw weight between five and nine metric tons and a length of over 35 meters, capable of delivering a large number of warheads in a single MIRV missile.
This treaty sets up review boards that will prevent our free will on the subject of nuclear deployments. It will also prevent our free will on the subject of a missile shield.
Still think this is a benign treaty?
The U. S. honors it’s agreements. Russia and China don’t.
MAD worked for fifty years. Now we’re trying to fix it? How do you get better than perfection?
Tell me what’s better than perfection? Anything other than perfection is massive death and destruction.
This is a fools game Obama and company are playing here.
It has become abundantly clear that these Republicans didn’t get We The People’s message on November 2nd. Call them 24/7 until they do get our message on this issue. Perhaps they need to be told emphatically that they will be voted out when they come up for re-election. Arrogance doesn’t become them nor does their quest for power at our nation’s expense.
Ping
Here’s the RINO List that voted for cloture on the START treaty
Bennett(R-UT)
Brown(R-MA)
Cochran(R-MS)
Collins(R-ME)
Corker(R-TN)
Isakson(R-GA)
Lugar(R-IN)
Murkowski(R-AK)
Snowe(R-ME)
Voinovich(R-OH)
There are no words profane enough to describe these ******!
To bad there isnt a RINO hunting licence with no bag limit.... I would pay for the chance
Primary them and get rid of them.
From the list, two are history come Jan. 5, 2011. The rest will be primaried when their time comes. In a nutshell, none of them will be around in six years. The question is: Can the nation survive that long?
These republicans are socialists voting from their hearts.
All good points. I’d just like to the GOP push for testing as much as they’ve been opposed to this treaty. Lets make sure what we still have works. We don’t know if any of them do. It’s like you have a Ferrari that you haven’t turned on for 20 years and you just think you can take it out for a spin and it will good as new.
What good are all the nukes/ICBMs/SLBMs we do have if haven’t tested them in 20 years and don’t know if they work?
Is there any chance some voted for cloture so that they could kill i right away, once and for all? If there are less than 67 for passage, and I was sure of it.....THAT IS the path I WOULD RECOMMEND.
I’ve heard those reports over the years. And while there may have been some valid basis for them, I have a very hard time accepting that a few of these haven’t been taken off-line and looked at if for no other reason than that we retired some of them.
What the full straight scoop is, I’m not sure. And perhaps that’s they way they want it. I don’t know...
This deal is for Russia which is why the Imam Obama
(their agent) pushes it.
No verification. No reciprocity.
No wonder the RINOs and DNC love this so much.
