A Clayton County mother of six said the family dog did what he always did when he saw someone. He barked.
But when "Boomer" started barking and running toward a police officer Saturday morning, the officer shot the dog and killed it, Lawrene King told the AJC Sunday night.
Hes a golden retriever," King said. "He barks, but hes never bitten anyone.
A Clayton County police officer was on foot patrol on North Shore Drive when the dog jumped off a porch and started barking and running toward the officer, Capt. Tina Daniel said. The officer ordered the dog to stop and when it didn't, the officer shot and killed the animal in its yard, Daniel said.
The officer, whose name was not released, was responding to a call reporting a suspicious person, police said.

Well if you'd shoot my dog for defending her turf and not leaving my property, you sure as hell aren't a friend.
Do you think you could post without the blasphemy. Thank you.
Have a nice day.
I would certainly hope so, but given that there are many reports of an increase in “bad” cops by those in the law enforcement community, and the increasing militarization of many police forces nationwide (especially in large urban areas), and a concomitant siege mentality displayed too often, reflected in viewing the general populace as “them” (as opposed to “us”, it makes one wonder.
Have standards slipped over the years? I dunno. I have no answers on this, but I am always reminded of a quote I encountered as a young lad of 18:
“Who shall guard the guardians?”
CA....
Joining a HOA is a preview to living in Hell.
OMG....tough dog.
Those zaps *hurt*.
“Put the cop back on Mall duty. It’s where his trigger happy ass belongs.”
Oh, great.
He’ll probably wind up capping a noisy mall rat or some studded Gothling hanging out in front of Hot Topic.
[but my odds are on some blind guy’s service dog that looks at him ‘funny’]
.....;-D
In this case their special deal with the cops (to track down meat trucks) blew up in their face and somebody's designer dog got shot.
Darned those designer dogs ~ just bounding around, looking good, playing with the kids ~
I’d rather live free in a weed-infested fenced-in hovel with noisy mowers running all day long than bow to The Rules of a HOA.
But that’s just me, I reckon....:)
“Darned those designer dogs ~ just bounding around, looking good, playing with the kids ~”
The horror....the *horror*.
[The X-Files did an ep based on a HOA that was really good and creepy...the people went totally spastic every time somebody even “bent” a rule because the result always a gory, brutal death]....LOL
Tonight, as you lie peacefully a’bed, I predict that an attack trained Golden Retriever will crash through your window and maul you mercilessly before you even have time to fully awaken.
/wild-eyed hyperbole because I just couldn’t work Sun Tzu’s rules of war in there, somehow
:)
A K9 cop outside of night club and I got into a wonderful discussion about his dog [and dogs, in general] and he had a whole belt literally full of junk hanging around his waist.
He identified all of it for me [because I’d jokingly asked if he had any Bat-Hooks on there] and yes, he had mace.
All the local cops have mace...and tazers and a gun and cuffs and zip-ties and rubber gloves and about 10 other assorted devices hanging off them.
He commented on how heavy the belt was, with all that ‘just in case gear’.
Even the local prison guards have mace/pepper spray.
Unless this cop worked in some Bizarro World PD, he had mace or pepper spray, too.
Did someone tell ya the police will protect you? If so, they lied.
If cops protected people, things like murder, rape and robbery wouldn't exist.
Don't mail carriers simply carry mace and pepper spray for nuisance dogs and for the safety of the neighborhood?
With billions spent on law enforcement, why are they not provided pepper spray and or mace, like mail carriers routinely use in situations like this?
Control your animal if you care about it. If it makes a credible display of bla bla bla...
When you evade legitimate credible questions it makes you appear as a dumbass and or deceptive.
Some of these people here see no problem opening up with firearms and pets within neighborhoods full of innocent kids, homes etc...
This is a big safety issue, and I'm surprised cops are not required to use pepper spray or mace on nuisance or threatening dogs, like mail carriers have done for many years...
One government agency uses pepper spray or mace effectively protecting themselves, yet the other government agency openly discharges firearms killing these pets, and endangering everyone living nearby in the neighborhood.
ER....Some of these people here see no problem opening up with firearms ON pets within neighborhoods full of innocent kids, homes etc...
Anyone who assaults me on my property does so at his own peril.
Trust me, it will be the LAST mistake they ever make.
I consign you as another JBT-loving statist, which is anathema to true conservatism.
Because police departments would rather waste those billions on unnecessary SWAT teams and on arming said teams with enough military firepower to storm the beaches at Normandy.
