No need to retaliate, says North Korea
* From: NewsCore
* December 20, 2010 11:15PM
NORTH Korea's military said it would not retaliate against South Korea's live-fire drill on a border island.
The North accused the south of behaving like "warmongers," and of deliberately stoking tensions as foreign nations called for restraint near the disputed Korean border.
"The revolutionary armed forces of the DPRK (North Korea) did not feel any need to retaliate against every despicable military provocation, like one taking revenge after facing a blow," the North's military supreme command said in a statement carried by KCNA.

Well, we suspected you won't attack this time. However, we know you will throw nasty surprise again. In weeks or months. Next time please leave your body parts with us.

Classic Sun-tzu.
Just NOW is when the big DPRK sledgehammer would come down from them on South Korea or Japan, of all times, IMHO--knowing their long history of treachery and sneak attacks.
Although it WOULD be good to ridicule them internally by propaganda balloons and medium wave broadcast, particuarly with grotesquely altered, photo-shopped photos of Kim Jong Eun to make him look even more fat than he is.

The performance of Russian Ambassador to UN was really impressive at UN. Either he faked it good or completely bought NK bluff.

They backed down when their bluff was called, proving the Obama doctrine (sit down and negotiate) the opposite of effective. Fire power is what’s effective.

Classic game theory prediction. North Korea has nothing to gain from actually going to war with South Korea. It does have a lot to gain from a credible threat of war with South Korea. The North Koreans have to balance the credible threat of war with the avoidance of actually going to war. South Korea has no real interest in actually going to war either. But they have to be ready to go to war or at least make NK think that will actually go to war. So no actual war is likely to happen. This is will go on indefinitely until some external condition changes.

Until the young doofy prick gets in charge and is more interested in how he thinks he appears rather than maintaining the status quo or until some of the military finally get sick of the whole situation and say, "Aw, eff it." and do what's needed to finally pop the inflamed pustule that is North Korea.

I can't wait to see what all they got from the deal with Richardson. So far, I've heard they conceded to allow inspectors to return, at least to some degree. Also, SK has agreed to buy their fuel rods, at probably 100 times the value. I'd bet massive food/fuel aid is in there too, and more diplomatic recognition and higher level meetings. Kicking the can again.

You mean like a power succession problems, failing health of despot, economy in shambles, worse famine reportedly in years upcoming, word that China might not like you anymore?

” NORTH Korea’s military said it would not retaliate against South Korea’s live-fire drill on a border island. “
Until we start seeing indications that the NKs are pulling back the rocket launchers and artillery pieces they’ve forward-deployed over the past week or so, and signs of a stand-down from ‘high alert’ status, I think sighs of relief might be a bit premature.....

If ever there was a case made for mutual destruction, the case of the two Koreas at war is it. I believe they both have enough military might to destroy each other. The worst part is we have about 25,000 American soldiers in S.K. Which is a drop in the bucket as far as helping S.K. and a president who will vote “present” when the war starts, only too happy to sacrifice those 25,000 American souls.
