Former President George W. Bush was happily stunned when legendary former heavyweight boxing champ Muhammad Ali stood facing him.
Bush was at a Barnes & Noble Booksellers store in Phoenix today signing his book, Decision Points when the Greatest entered (with the Secret Service) to shake hands.
With his famous comic humor, Ali sat next to Bush and held the book up as press and public snapped photos.
“Can you see zero if Ali had shown up to see him? It would have been all about the won and not the champ.”
There would have been some political harangue, probably about race.
Dubya is a VERY likable guy.
If memory serves, Ali did not fight for about 3 years - in his prime. He paid a heavy price for standing by his convictions.
Is his mind capable of understanding TRUTH at this point?
Not a fan. Both because of Ali’s proselytizing for Islam back when few Americans were familiar with it but also for the culture of taunting and trash-talking that he created which has influenced African-American athletes and youth in general to their detriment.
Before Ali, black athletes were dignified men like Willie Mays and Hank Aaron who treated opponents with respect. Ali changed all that.
According to the Wikipedia article, Ali never went to jail and has been Sufi since 2005.
We had the draft back then. If your number came up and you got drafted and refused to go, you went to jail. Sort of like the officer who refused to deploy recently because he objected to Obama as President because of in his opinion, doubtful eligibility. A lot of them back then went to Canada. Daddy called them draft dodgers.
Your daddy was right. The cowards such as Cassius Clay and the ones who moved to Canada were draft dodgers.
Bump!
One thing about Clay; back in day...that still seems to be true today...Is you can never tell exactly where he is coming from.
He said and did exactly what he said he would say and do.
If you think it was 'jive' you didn't do your homework.
Shame on you.
btw, as for your tagline, God also exalts the humble, and that's exactly what is happening, and what will happen to His servant, George W. Bush. All glory be to HIM!
Ali was a useful idiot for Elijah Mohammed.
The religion of non violence was Ali’s alibi for not serving but he made $$Millions pummeling men into submission.
What a contradition!
Say what you will about Ali, the single toughest thing I’ve ever seen a man do was his going 13 rounds with Ken Norton with a broken jaw.
Norton broke Ali’s jaw in the second round, and Ali fought on and finished the fight. Norton knew he hurt Ali and worked on the jaw for the rest of the fight.
He lost the decision to Norton, but it was close.
>> Smokin Joe would beg to differ with you. He delivered far more than 5 shots to Alis head in almost every round of their three fights.
Say it ain’t so, Smokin’ Joe.
He has had Parkinsons for more than 20 years.
Parkinsons
He has.
If you check old sports film, whether boxing, baseball or whatever, you might find that athletes in general were a little more respectful and low key.
Bush was gracious as always.
LOL. I was thinking about freeper Smokin’ Joe when I posted that.
