Officers will start random bag inspections on the sprawling Washington subway system, the Washington Metro Transit Police said on Thursday, a week after a man was arrested for making bomb threats to the rail system. Metrorail police officers plan to randomly select bags before passengers enter subway stations and they will swab them or have an explosives-sniffing dog check the bags, according to the Metro police.

Seriously, we need to treat this as “the dinner roll”, or we are in BIG trouble. I’m talkin’ “USSR” or “Nazi Germany” trouble. I’m not kidding, nor do I think I am exaggerating the real risk here.

I really would have a problem with them examining my bag, and I would refuse. In fact, it would be nice to actually stand at the entrances and hand out 5x7 sheets of paper with the fourth amendment clearly printed in large font and hand it to people as they approach the station.
They can get away with this in NYC because they have basically banned guns there.

Wow, I quit a job once because I couldn’t stand the “unannounced bag checks” they had. Times have changed.
They won’t search muslims.

She’s right, assuming that they have “common sense”.
