Republicans could relinquish a significant portion of the gains they made in the midterm elections if they "allow" the omnibus spending bill to pass, Sen. John McCain said Wednesday.
The Arizona Republican said that Tea Party activists who helped the GOP make large inroads on Democrats are "enraged" about the $1.1 trillion measure to fund the government that contains nearly $8 billion in earmarks.
"They gave us a second chance last November ... And if we Republicans allow this thing to go through, then I'm not sure they're going to give us another chance," McCain said during an interview with Fox News's Sean Hannity.
McCain's comments put in stark relief the political dangers Republicans, and some Democrats, could face if the appropriations bill passes the Senate as is during the lame-duck session.
The 2008 GOP presidential nominee said there are five or six senators from his party who "may vote for it," leading him to say that the bill "may pass."
Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.) has introduced an alternative to the omnibus: a one-page continuing resolution that would fund the government until Feb. 18, at which point the new Congress could pass a comprehensive spending measure.
McCain also warned Democrats that they could feel voter backlash if they support the bill. Democrats must defend a whopping 23 Senate seats, some in swing and red states, in the 2012 elections.
The senator urged Tea Partiers to make their voices heard even louder against the bill.
"I was on the phone with the Tea Partiers all over Arizona today," he said. "They are enraged. They are outraged. I want to see an uprising all over this country from the same people who caused our [gains]."
Go to hell, you treasonous bastard.
ditto that and also send to hell his beer swiggin wife and gay luvin daughter....skanks all
Given what’s transpired so far, they’re going to lose seats anyway, Juan. The tragedy is that you won’t be among the ones shown the door.
McCain...speaking for Tea Partiers? Now I have seen everything.
actually they go onto the ash heap of history right next to the Whigs and the Bullmoose Party
Why are we listening to these people???!!?!!
What is going on in this world???
The tragedy is that you wont be among the ones shown the door.
At least for the next 6 year.

You KNOW I dislike McCain, but when he’s right, he’s right. I DESPISE the RINO sellouts in the senate who are preparing to give us another bloated spending bill, a treaty with who knows what in it, and open sodomites in the US military! To his credit, McCain appears to be standing firm with those attempting to stop this lame duck madness.
Bottom line: the Democrats no longer have a mandate from We The People to rule. They are rushing things through because they know they are working against us. RINO quislings like Brown, Collins, and Murkowski are actively supporting our enemies on the left. An honorable person would wait for the new congress, but Brown, Collins, Murkowski, and their RINO ilk are NOT honorable.
Say what you will about McCain, but I’m loving the man right now for voting with us. Go Maverick! Be even MORE Mavericky and filibuster or delay everything in sight!
FU McLaim. The main reason the Tea Party exists is to throw RINO’s like you out of office.
McCain is pure theatre. He’s clearly having a field day posing as a conservative for laughs. A villain to conservatives, but borrowing their sheepskin to parade through the airhead media who still bother to parade him out for...well, for what? His entire constituency can be found in his daughter Mega McCain, a very few others, but ALL are confined to the state of Arizona. Why he gets face time outside of the Phoenix buy-sell-or trade rags, I’m sure I don’t know.
McCain doesn’t speak for the tea partiers, but he may be right. I do hope the Republicans will have the backbone and sense to stand against this.
Enraged is an understatement.
We will take names and not stop until anyone GOP’er that votes for this is permanently banished from elective office.
