Los Angeles Times ^ | December 15, 2010

President Obama on Wednesday sat down with chief executives from major companies such as Boeing, Comcast, General Electric and Google for a lengthy "working meeting" to urge them to do more hiring to bring down unemployment and work with him to strengthen the economic recovery.

"I am looking forward to getting good ideas from them, but I am definitely going to talk to them about how we can get more hiring out there," Obama told reporters as he walked across Pennsylvania Avenue from the White House to attend the meeting at Blair House.

The meeting was expected to last about four hours and is part of a renewed push by the Obama administration to dispel criticism that it is anti-business. That initiative has included business-friendly moves in recent weeks, such as completing a trade pact with South Korea and making a deal to extend the Bush-era tax cuts and include other tax breaks helpful to U.S. companies...

Allow me to translate: These men had to explain to him how capitalism works, how what he does can have a harmful effect on the economy, what it takes to create jobs (hint: not rising taxes and regulation). I saw a TV report on this tonight, and it was pretty clear he didn't have a clue and they had to walk him through these concepts.

I know this isn’t a new concept but Obama truly thinks he can solve problems by jawboning them to death.

Top CEO’s aren’t really the key to new hiring.

Maybe obozo can just sign another executive order. Every company to hire 5% more employees and cut the work week to 35 hours.

It will work, I am sure/sarcasm

Obama thinks that businesses are in the business of creating jobs.

Wrong! They're in business to make money.

Pitiful. Barry asking “BIG business” to haul his chestnuts out of the fire while he trashes them 24/7, 365. They’re morons if they think he is their friend.

I heard Neal Boortz say that Japan dropped their corporate tax rate 5%? 10%?

The USA now has the highest corporate tax rate at 39%. Want them to hire? You might try doing away with it or at least drop it to 10 percent permanently.

What a jack ass!!!

Only government hires anyone when they don’t have a demand for them.

Businesses don’t hire people to give them jobs!!!!

Obama is despicable. I didn’t know a person could consistently lie.

That's the ticket - a pump up from the Liar In Chief is all that is needed and they will all run out and start hiring this afternoon. Gwad this guy is a buffoon. Like elRushbo says, “He is the most inexperienced person to walk into any room.”

I'm not sure about that. But i though this was interesting.

No major U.S. bank executives came, even though the financial industry has had an especially rocky relationship with the White House after the passage of financial overhaul legislation and the president's criticism of "fat cat" bankers. The administration has tried to build a rapport with executives such as Jamie Dimon of J.P. Morgan Chase and Brian Moynihan of Bank of America, neither of whom attended the meeting.

Also missing was Ivan Seidenberg, chief executive of Verizon, who delivered a stinging speech in June, saying the president's policies hurt economic growth. Seidenberg, who is also chairman of the Business Roundtable, presented a "road map" last week of policies supported by the business community relating to taxes, trade and energy.

This is so wrong, I really don’t even know where to start.

I wonder if “carrots” (i.e., government contracts, tax code “changes”) or “sticks” (i.e., regulatory/IRS problems, LACK of government contracts) were discussed.

Affirmative Action will do that to a person....show me one time in Barry’s life that he wasn’t handed something “just because” and I could point you to an experience where he might have gained some understanding about how the world works. Trouble is....there aren’t any.

“He is the most inexperienced person to walk into any room.”

Even and especially if that room is filled only with air prior to his entering.
