Obama meets with top CEOs to urge more hiring
Los Angeles Times ^ | December 15, 2010

President Obama on Wednesday sat down with chief executives from major companies such as Boeing, Comcast, General Electric and Google for a lengthy "working meeting" to urge them to do more hiring to bring down unemployment and work with him to strengthen the economic recovery.

"I am looking forward to getting good ideas from them, but I am definitely going to talk to them about how we can get more hiring out there," Obama told reporters as he walked across Pennsylvania Avenue from the White House to attend the meeting at Blair House.

The meeting was expected to last about four hours and is part of a renewed push by the Obama administration to dispel criticism that it is anti-business. That initiative has included business-friendly moves in recent weeks, such as completing a trade pact with South Korea and making a deal to extend the Bush-era tax cuts and include other tax breaks helpful to U.S. companies...

When it come to running large corporations, I am confident they know what they are doing better than BO does, and me for that matter.

The cure for high unemployment rates is to sit down with Zero and urge more resigning. Thanks La Lydia.

AFTER the 2nd year, we're going to increase your costs beyond your ability to make a profit and to keep any of your employees. For this deal, we want you to hire NEW help right now at full benefits for which you will have continuing financial liability for years to come. This will help to make us look good so we can continue to be managers of the park. Whaddaya say? Deal?"

Great example!

Easy to see why there is a murmurring among financial people that the economy we have now may be the new normal. Business is in a liquidity trap and expansion isn't being done by hiring and building new facilities. Expansion is being done by merger and acquisition. Once the new company is bought people are fired and revenue is expanded.

my second is that he's threatening them.

That was exactly my first thought. He threatened many of the big banks two years ago. While hotly debated here on FR, the CEO from USBank did discuss the 'arm twisting.' All this reminds of the scenes from Atlas Shrugged.

Obama must think that the CEO’s can just add a bunch of meaningless workers the way the government does it.

Business is in a liquidity trap

They keep acting like this tax bill is some big boon to businesses. How can it possibly be? It CONTINUES rates at the SAME level as they are now in recession over. How in the world does continuing the same rates make things better. That can only keep things the same. And things aren't very good.

On top of that, the politico ruling class wants to add the death tax, which will KILL more businesses. And they want to go deeper in debt with a coupla hundred billion in unemployment benefits, and that's gotta lead to some kind of crash someplace....inflation, forgotten infrastructure, military weakness, richer enemies, less competitive goods.

There's a reckoning coming, and it ain't gonna be pretty.

You are so right. All this talk about a tax cut is garbage. All they are doing is delaying the date they INCREASE TAXES.

And they want to go deeper in debt with a coupla hundred billion in unemployment benefits,...

One of the traditional ways economies came out of recessions was through job creation by the laid off. People would be laid off and since they couldn't find work created new business's and as these new business's began to do well started hiring. With unemployment running 99 weeks some of those that would be starting up a business aren't doing it.

There's a reckoning coming, and it ain't gonna be pretty.

Because of the incredible incompetence of the left our economic problems are much worse than they should be. We will know in the next 2-4 years whether this is going to be fixable. I think what is even more frightening than our economic self destruction is our social destruction. I can see recovery from the economic problems, but I don't know of any civilizations that have recovered from embracing hedonism.

Most of the jobs are provided by small companies on whom all the new regulation is most onerous.

Is 0bama delusional?

Barry is trying (with lots of help from Reid and Pelosi) to destroy the economy and make as many people as possible dependent on the government for survival and healthcare. He doesn’t want these companies to succeed. He wants them to fail. This is typical of the lame liberal media just copying the talking points.

You have a very good point. However, I’ve been reading where the Wall Street types are tired of being demonized, and Obama is not getting the money he did during 2008.

Right now, he’s trying to convince Americans that he is pro-business, and he is alienating his liberal base to the point where he’s bleeding those supporters.

Have you heard of the “No Labels” semi-movement? Most of them are ‘Rats.

I think he’s in a box of his own making, and it’s going to be hard for him to get out of it.
