Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C., backed off threats today to force a reading of the New START arms-reduction treaty after the White House assailed the delay tactic as a new low.
Senate leaders had estimated that a full reading of the accord could take 15 hours, which would have thrown a wrench into ambitious plans to finish work on New START, an omnibus spending bill, and several other pieces of legislation before the Senate adjourns for the year.

“A warm round of applause to all the RINOs who stayed home in 2008.”
But, but, they were the pure conservatives standing up for principle...(how’s that working out for y’all?)
“I’m not actually ready to throw Jim DeMint to the wolves”
Wow - how magnanimous of you...
True, I know he is one of the good guys but his mouth is writing checks he isn’t willing to cash.
When Sarah says she is going to do something, she does it. Republicans are getting their asses handed to them in this lame duck session and freedom-loving Americans are much worse off as a result.
Are any Republicans in Congress doing more than just going along with biz as usual? If so, I don’t see it.
Please read further into this string. DeMint has a list of possible R supporters who now oppose the new START and he traded a 15 hour reading for a 24 hour delay.
I think if you see trashing of Hunter it's not particularly his positions that are being trashed, but that he was a candidate who could never gain any traction. Even more, I think people react to the horrendous way pissant presented Hunter, fought with those that thought DH was not a good candidate, insulted anyone who didn't agree with him and went after any other candidate that didn't have the initials DH.
Now he is doing the same kind of stuff, but solely AGAINST Sarah Palin. He posts a tremendous amount of liberal PDS talking points from liberal publications, insults anyone who supports her, never discusses with those who object or give good reasons for why he is wrong, rather he just thrashes around accomplishing nothing. All the while Barry and the autocrats are ruining our country. I'm sorry, it's deranged what he does, and I have no problem pointing that out and returning to him what he gives everyone else.
I don't have a ping list I call either, I need no help in dealing with the man (?), he makes himself an easy and worthy target.
As to perfect candidates, I agree there are none. I hope the campaign for 2012 is a good one, spirited with good debate and a continued push towards conservative ideas. We need to get rid of Obama with a worthy conservative, that should be the end goal
No offense to you personaly SB, I usually enjoy your posts but that is pretty lame spin. Is that coming straight from DeMint’s camp or just your take on things?
Either way, I would simply ask: What issue is DeMint, or any other Republican, doing something to block a single piece of the lameduck legislation?
By the time we celebrate Christmas it is quite possible that START, DADT repeal, Omnibus, Tax Cut/Earmark bonanza and some kind of climate legislation will be passed by these criminals.
Which battle do you think DeMint will take a stand on and say “Enough”?
Sorry, I am just very frustrated with “our side” and kind of feel abandoned by our supposed representatives. Let ‘em all work through Christmas.
“No longer will I try to work within the GOP party. My last hope is resting on the tea party candidates. If they cave, all is lost, Ill hunker down for the fight. My last line of defense is the new guys. After that, its all men for himself.
Weve tried all legal avenues, if that doesnt work, plan b.”
Did you read this string to realize that 8 R votes are now dooming START and DeMint traded a public 15 hour reading for a 24 hour delay?
“No offense to you personaly SB, I usually enjoy your posts but that is pretty lame spin. Is that coming straight from DeMints camp or just your take on things?”
No offense taken. I just think that the new START is dead:

“Omnibus, Tax Cut/Earmark bonanza”
DeMint is lining up in opposition to this also, and is advocating for a reading of the Omnibus bill, among other aspects of opposition.
I think you took my comment the wrong way, or perhaps what I said didn't come out the way I meant it. I'm not down on Jim DeMint. I've pulled back from passing judgment on this incident.
