What if Obama's healthcare law required every American
to buy a gun? How'd you feel about that?

Yes, let us have the Supreme Court interpret that the 2nd Amendment requires lawful people to purchase and own a firearm. Also under the General Welfare clause, a well-armed militia being vital for the defense of the state and the country.
Damn straight, the libs would be bitching up a storm.
Better yet, force people to belong to a religion. We have freedom of religion, you are required to use that freedom, so pick a religion, pick a denomination, and start showing us proof you’re attending regularly and donating.
Man that would be sweet to watch the liberal heads melt right on television.

Why should the government force any one to buy anything? Its about freedom and personal choice. I don’t need politicians and bureaucrats making that decision for me. I can make it for myself.

What if Obama were born a hundred years ago in Illinois and moved to California to be an actor he could have been Ronald Reagan?

In fact early drafts of the Second Amendment DID require everybody to own arms, but had an exception for people who were religiously opposed to it.
And that is a big part of the key thinking at that time. FORCING people to do anything amounts to tyranny, not liberty.
So the phrase was dropped.

If I recall correctly, the Militia Act of 1792 did require the men to whom it was applicable to equip themselves with a firearm and other military equipment. Of course that can be traced back to other clauses in Section 8 of Article I, but arguably not the Commerce Clause.

What if I want to wait to buy one?
