Yes, let us have the Supreme Court interpret that the 2nd Amendment requires lawful people to purchase and own a firearm. Also under the General Welfare clause, a well-armed militia being vital for the defense of the state and the country.

Damn straight, the libs would be bitching up a storm.

Better yet, force people to belong to a religion. We have freedom of religion, you are required to use that freedom, so pick a religion, pick a denomination, and start showing us proof you’re attending regularly and donating.

Man that would be sweet to watch the liberal heads melt right on television.

In fact early drafts of the Second Amendment DID require everybody to own arms, but had an exception for people who were religiously opposed to it.

And that is a big part of the key thinking at that time. FORCING people to do anything amounts to tyranny, not liberty.

So the phrase was dropped.
