An Army doctor who disobeyed orders to deploy to Afghanistan because he questions Barack Obama's eligibility to be president has pleaded guilty to 1 of 2 charges against him.

At a court-martial proceeding Tuesday in Maryland, Lt. Col. Terrence Lakin of Greeley, Colo., pleaded guilty to not meeting with a superior when ordered to do so and not showing up at Fort Campbell in Kentucky where he was supposed to report.

I love you too, joe.

But for the record, I wasn’t bossing anyone. I gave an example of an appropriate apology. Butter could take it or leave it. She took it, which speaks volumes about her sincerity.

You always tell me what to do and where to go. Why should this thread be any different? Let me have it. I can take it.

Having the opinion that the birther nonsense is going nowhere makes one an Obama supporter?

Actually, it will likely result in a few states passing presidential eligibility ballot laws. You can say c'est la vie to Obama for 2012.

In Florida even that is not enough to get an official Identification card much less a driver’s license,

__________________________

My wife just got hers renewed. She had to have a long form BC, SS card, 2 bills showing her name and address, marriage license to show name change from the one her birth certificate. One of the bills didn’t have the right info on it so she also had to show voters registration card and another photo ID..... Thanks to Bush’s law. I guess it’s good to bust illegals but they will just drive without a license and hope they don’t get caught. Now her driver’s license isn’t just info within the state, it’s in a national data base. Big brother and all that good stuff.

"The bad advice of Lakin’s lawyers does not mitigate his guilt in any way."

No one is saying it's mitigating his guilt, sport. What people are saying is that just maybe Puckett can create a sympathetic narrative in the minds of the jury panel members. More sympathy = more lenient sentence.

Really, this isn't all that complicated. This IS NOT like civilian federal criminal court where there are sentencing guidelines imposed by the legislature and delivered by the judge. Lakin will be ENTIRELY at the mercy of the jury panel - which was his choice, BTW.

Butterdezillion- You’ve done yeomans work uncovering the corruption in Hawaii, and you are a patriot if ever there were. To the person who mocked you as “just some housewife with a blog,” he is a blind fool. What courage you have! What love of country.

God bless you. Never lose heart. There are patriots in this country still, who will never submit to the brainwashing of the Progressives. Right is right, wrong is wrong, and the truth simply is.

Now then- let’s set a few things straight, shall we?

Does anyone think that Colonel Lakin is “deserting” out of cowardice? Reading some of these comments, one might think this to be the case; in reality, nothing could be further from the truth. An honorable man is laying the one card he has in his power to lay, in an effort to uphold the oath he swore to our Constitution. Yes, victory in this arena was always a longshot; nay, a suicide maneuver that had no hope of success…

Or did it? Maybe an even better question: Has it already succeeded, possibly?

Depends on what you think the Colonel’s hopes were.

Nathan Bedford is a freeper who authored one of the most profound posts I’ve ever read on this forum, and my words here won’t be able to do him justice. In much more eloquent fashion, he made the case that when society offers no means for remedying a conflict, men will fill the vacuum in there own ways. Once upon a time, Civil War broke out over the issue of slavery, as no other methods could satisfactorily solve the Gordion Knot of the day. When backed up against a wall, a people will not simply evaporate and disappear. Some might bend to their knees and lick the boot of their new master; others will charge out of that corner with swinging fists. (This is not to side with the South, please note- my only point is that when all other venues are exhausted, a person will & must do something.)

So what then were the Colonel’s hopes, in undertaking this seemingly unwinnable fight?

I can conjure in my mind the image of a Tibetan monk lighting himself on fire. Perhaps this is the best way to view the Lakin’s decision and dilemma. Surely nobody expected the judge to allow the subpoena of O’s birth certificate (though I continue to wish for this desperately, to see the charlatan unmasked!). But just as a person looks at that image of a man who has lit himself on fire and asks “what could possibly have motivated someone to take such drastic, irrevocable measures,” so too does the American who reads a headline about this honorable soldier’s impending sentence at Leavenworth.

“Why did he do it?” the citizen will ask.

Colonel Lakin never expected to “get away with it.” Colonel Lakin is using his unique position, his honorable career of service to this country, and is hoping people will ask that simple, beautiful question, that harbinger of truth on the very cusp of escaping its chains: “WHY?”

And then? The average American starts thinking, my FRiends. He starts to ask other curious questions, like “Isn’t the President this man’s Commander in Chief? Why hasn’t the Commander in Chief stepped in to resolve all this?” Perhaps he asks these questions of his coworkers at a watercooler. Perhaps this question begins to circulate more in, say, primary season of 2012?

Dangerous questions indeed, for a democracy whose President has taken care to hide every trace of his past.

We are certainly living in interesting times, are we not? A woman at her keyboard, some lowly “housewife with a blog” in fact, has done more to ferret out the truth of this shadow President, this Usurper, than the combined forces of our vaunted media. And the frustration she feels after seeing the sacrifice of a man who’s dedicated his life to the military! At the prospect of seeing him in chains, instead of the man who has caused the crisis?

I understood your comments, Butterdezillion, and I’ll go ahead and tell you how I feel: I part ways with anyone who has taken an oath to defend our beloved Constitution from all enemies foreign and domestic, and has failed to do so out of cowardice. I love our fighting military men and women and this country; they are selfless heroes whose sacrifices allow us to debate the noble ideas of our Creator’s unalienable rights. They are not the true subject of your frustration, nor of mine. The creators of this new Gordion Knot are legion, truly- in both national parties, in Hawaii, and who in Washington could not be aware of O’s eligibility issues? It is astounding, it is a national Elephant in the Room.

And so while some look at Colonel Lakin and call him a fool, I call this man a patriot. Who among us would have the courage to cast away everything for his country, his Constitution? Don’t give me your tripe about “you can’t do that in the military.” There are exceptions to every rule, most notably being that it was certainly against British law to take up arms against the redcoats.

This country was forged in a crucible of brilliant men, impossible circumstances, and the most daunting of odds. Never, ever, ever give up. The truth is the truth, and all it wants is to get out.

“If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your counsel nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains rest lightly upon you and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.”—Samuel Adams

You are still sore because you lost the bet, and were forced by me to donate 200 bucks to FR. Yep, this silly unintelligent housewife with a 4.0 GPA an member of several honor societies and other organizations bested you again.

I can understand your bitterness.

You were asked to explain something in the post below, and you came back with a stack of nonsense with regard to that question.

So, just who is the the person of “limited intelligence”? that would be you James777

I’m not the least bit “sore”. I love the debate on these issues and I try to give as good as I get. If people who respond are polite, I try to be polite as well. If people respond with invective, that’s what they get back.

You are definitely a legend in your own mind but I find consolation in the fact that your side of the debate hasn’t won a single lawsuit or appeal in any court in the United States and with Lt.C. Lakin pleading guilty, that makes 87 losses and 0 wins. There’s no need to be sore when winning the debate brings a smile to my face.
I’ll settle for that.

Are you really still denying that a criminal grand jury investigation of Obama with the possiblity of indictment on charges that constitute high crimes and misdemeanors and where there are no issues of standing to get in the way of an investigation on the merits isn’t a good way to resolve the Obama eligibility issue?

I was unaware that housewives had GPAs but congratulations on your high grades in sweeping, dishwashing and laundry.

*snip*

After requesting assignment to a combat unit so he could serve in Afghanistan, Lakin was required in his orders to produce his birth certificate.

According to Puckett, Lakin’s conscience was troubled when he realized Obama, the man responsible for sending American servicemen to Afghanistan, has never produced his own birth certificate.

Lakin deliberately disobeyed orders to deploy to Afghanistan again because of doubts that Obama is eligible to occupy the Oval Office.

“He’s stuck in a situation where he has disobeyed military orders, those orders issued from military authority, and the army is not allowing him to look beyond that,” said Puckett. “That’s why he’s going to court martial. ... Our job will be to minimize that punishment and allow him to move forward in a way that is not damaging to his family.”

Puckett characterized Lakin’s disobedience as “courageous” and an act of “civil disobedience.”

“He acknowledges responsibility for his decisions he made and he’s made them courageously. He’s sort of engaging in classic civil disobedience. He’s saying ‘I am acting in accordance with my conscience. My conscience will not let me do this unless I find out certain information.’

He knew from the very beginning this could cause him personal harm, That’s true courage. It’s moral courage, it’s physical courage. You have to admire him for that.

“The goal we would all like to have is to be acquitted of charges, but sometimes the evidence or the facts or the circs don’t allow for that,” said Puckett. “The next level of defense for someone who cannot be acquitted under the evidence is to achieve the best possible outcome under the circumstances.

“The prosecution is really out to get him,” Puckett added. “They really trumped up the charges higher than they needed to be.”

Can anyone decipher Puckett’s last statement as to what
harder than typical process or charges were levied ?

I think you continued to badger and berate BDZ even after she apologized at least five times, and ignored all of them and continued to post an official complete apology that everyone actually agreed with, and that she agreed with imediately.

It was telling to see who those that jumped on the chance to stomp BDZ while she was down.

And Ping the bossman.

Who is they? When I first came to FR I was given a list and since then I’ve seen at least 5 other lists. Some names are the same on each list, some have different names and no, I’m not telling who sent me the lists.

Well, it’s a crying shame. But Lakin FUBARed.

Yes it appears to be so, but by extension we as Americans a FUBAR'ed along with him.

Seems we're running out of options.

I'm just frustrated Jim, at this point I'm having a hard time trying to figure out how we're going to fix this....I don't see it.

You may get down on your knees tonight and pray God that the United States military never does what you suggest they ought to do, rise up in rebellion to the government of the United States. They have resisted all previous temptations and God save, they will forever do. Even in our darkest hour, at the beginning of the Civil War, the military did not desert her government. Officers resigned their commissions and peaceably left federal service to return to the state of their birth, but they did not stand against their government while still wearing its uniform. No Regiment of the United States Army joined the rebellion, they were loyal to United States and remained so.

The military views with considerable disdain political “statements” of the Lakin sort and have used the power of the UCMJ to rail against it. They have been consistently supported in their actions by the civilian courts of the United States. Again, thank God.

Once again you two show your utter ignorance of the law and court procedure, and pattern jury instructions. The judge will instruct the panel that they should not be influenced by any sympathy for the defendant, or the defendant’s family in any way be affected by your decision.
