Top RNC official hasn't voted in GOP primary for years

The Republican National Committee's top outreach official, hired to make help make the party younger and more diverse, hasn't voted in a Republican primary election of any kind since before 2000, The Washington Times has learned.

But longtime Washington lobbyist Angela Sailor, 42, and her political consultant husband, Elroy, 41, did vote in the 2008 Virginia Democratic presidential primary, according to Prince William County election records.

Mr. Steele, who was expected to talk about his own future at the RNC later Monday, raised eyebrows after his election in January 2009 when he announced the creation of an RNC Department of Coalitions and named Mrs. Sailor, a longtime friend, as its director.

The move generated more questions when it was learned that Mr. Steele had the RNC set her salary at $180,000 a year, making her the highest-paid staff person. Her annual salary, not including benefits, is $40,000 more than the elected co-chairman of the RNC receives.

"Angela will be crucial to our efforts to grow our party and spread our message," Mr. Steele said in announcing her appointment and the creation of a new department for her to head.

Steele, please go away. You are a Colin Powell clone and no friend to conservatism.

Clean house. No RINOS. No collusion, no subversion. Grow the Tea Party.

This is so sad—we need to do a very thorough housecleaning, and we need to do it NOW!

RINOs out. Is it just me or do all America-haters always hire their friends and relatives for soft jobs?

Looks like there might be a bit of racialist nepotism going on here. Other than being a similarly hued long term friend of the Chairman what other attributes does Mrs. Senior bring to the table?

So a new and recent GOP hire voted 2 years ago in the Democrat primary???? Come ON. Do we VETT anyone?

I know that when my friend volunteered to make phone calls for the local Republican party, they wanted to see their voter registration card to make SURE they were Republican...and that was for LOCAL stuff--you'd think the national party would have a little more brain power.

And no bench--I mean, are there NO hungry workers in the lower echelons of the party? Why not hire some graduating college Republicans with marketing degrees??? I dunno...this seems like a REAL boneheaded move.

It appears that Steele and the Sailors need to join the "No Labels" party as they are qualified as non-Republicans (in Steele's case, RINO).

This crap is just mind-boggling.

Who in the national party votes for leaders like Steele when we have many more qualified folk (including those with mocha-tinted skin, since affirmative action seems to rule the day at the RNC!)

This is what happens when people like Mark McKinnon are in charge. These are RATS who want to minimize resistance to their socialist agenda. Every other phase of government has been infested with RATS so I suppose it is hardly surprising that the GOP itself has been infiltrated.

Steele:
Please go GFYS and live the rest of your days skulking quietly pretending you are a great trap shooter or skip that and golf with Fauxbama.

You suck louder than a Calliope Jane.

I know this is old news but Steele's decision to run for re-election is brand new and it requires reminding everyone of this guy's (and his family/friend team) horrible track record. Btw, Michael Steele had NOTHING to do with the GOP gains in November, 2010 and any notion that he did should be disabused vehemently.

Why does this situation make me fear that we are about to relive the GOP POTUS '08 circus (Newt Romneybee) all over again too? If so, we'll need to re-post a LOT of articles (and pictures) from that timeframe too!

In Tennessee we have open primaries and no party registration. I have sometimes voted for the worst possible Democrat candidate in the primary when the Republican was virtually assured the nomination. So, yes, I can say that I have pulled the lever for Al Sharpton, for example. But it was a hard decision between him and Howard Dean!

Not defending them or anything, we need mor information, but we should remember that there were a lot of republicans who voted in the 2008 Virginia democratic presidential primary, as part of Operation Chaos.

The republican race was over by then. And Virginia has no registration by party, so you can vote in either primary. You just show up and tell them which one you want to vote in.

Prince William has an active Republican committee, so I wonder if she was a member.

Rove ... Steele ... Powell. Birds of a feather ... politically.

I'll give Steele this, he's got more rhythm, groove and style than Rove.
