Hmmm. $40K for nine months ain’t nuthin’ to sneeze at.

There you go making assumptions. My school, and many others, starts mid August (Aug 11) and goes through June. So it is 10.5 months, now granted I do get a generous Christmas break and a week for for Easter break. I should add, that I do stay after school three days a week for students who need additional tutoring. Our day starts at 7 and we are allowed to go home by 4 but are often there with students until as late as 5.

I hear you when you talk about excessive admin costs and those SPED kids are money vacuums.

The coaching staff was the equivalent of S.W.A.T.

LOL in my school coaches were tubby donut eaters. We did have a teacher who was a boxer and a vice principal who worked summers on the farms with us.

This sounds like manslaughter. Suspension is clearly insufficient. Add assault and battery on one another if applicable.

Best to the teacher and father of the deceased.

Those students must’ve pushed this teacher down hard, if that’s what caused the miscarriage.

Once, in the ninth month of pregnancy, I tripped and belly flopped hard onto a cement pavement. The doctor said not to worry; a baby is safely protected inside the womb. So, either there was another complication, or she was pushed down on purpose and much harder.

Thoughts and prayers for the teacher and her family.

She was elbowed in the stomach. That’s what probably disrupted the womb and caused her to miscarry.

They must’ve elbowed her very hard. Like you, I hope these students are being investigated further.

“During my 28 years of teaching, I swore I would NEVER intervene in a fight and call on security to stop the fight.”

I always intervene- I broke up 3 fights last year alone, two of them by myself. If you don’t stand up for law and order the students won’t respect you, and in the case of my school, we only have one school resource officer- so it is up those of us male staff members on the scene. Just part of the job, unfortunately.

I can predict two possible outcomes here and I know that I’ll sound cynical making those predictions. (1) If race and/or ethnicity are a factor (and they’ll never be mentioned), nothing will be done and it will be deemed an accident. Further, they will say that the teacher shouldn’t have interfered and should have called security. (2) If race and/or ethnicity are not a factor, they’ll have the book thrown at them and will do jail time.

I realize the importance of recognizing an unborn child as the human that IT IS.

But in some schools, fighting is the only way to survive, and if a teacher stepped in foolishly, my gosh, what a horrible situation.

You know, I’m in favor of the death penalty when it’s warranted, but I don’t think I’m for putting a person behind bars for years because of an accident. Unless they were driving on a cell phone or under the influence.

Yeah and the day after my mother died I was riding my bike, laughing, talking with neighbors, doing anything to avoid the pain.

I was 22. You’re talking about a first grader. I’m sure they were having serious trouble coping.

I live in rural NJ. I work in NYC next to a noisy and sometimes violent NYC high school.

Every day, I thank God I never had to send my kids to a school like the one across the street.

I grew up in the Bronx...went to Catholic Grade School then Catholic HS because the public schools stank that bad. at the end of the 10th grade my folks decided it was time to flee. we moved out to the Island and did not look back. Dad was NYPD and new the dangers of the city...it took him a while but he got his family OUT.

The local DA is better qualified to ascertain that which is prosecutable.
