Students at Bronx high school pushed her to the ground

A Bronx teacher suffered a miscarriage after breaking up a fight between two students over a chair, school officials said Thursday.

Lissedia Batista, 27, was elbowed in the stomach, pushed, and fell to the floor as she tried to get in the middle of a fight between two students.

Batista was four months pregnant and was taken by ambulance to North Centeral Bronx Hospital, where she miscarried her baby.

The two students involved in the fight have been suspended.

You don’t understand a pregnancy ended without an abortion is not a good thing to the lefties.

That is a picture of a woman about to wreak revenge on a former student.

Here is one of the more tragic reasons to homeschool.

“I doubt that a charge of murder would stick. Not that it shouldn’t, you understand. As we are all aware of by now, we have arrived at a point in time in this country where the aborting of an unborn child, whether by design, accident or assault, is not considered to be a big deal.”

Surprising this is wrong. While it is, indeed, intellectually inconsistent, it’s still murder to kill an unborn baby, outside the abortion procedure.

This is also true under federal law:

Unborn Victims of Violence Act

Not a lawyer, but Unborn Victims of Violence Act does not require knowledge of pregnancy.

I also recall Scott Peterson getting the death penatly for double homicide — mom and child. (Of course he knew, so that’s a little different.)

Anyway, plenty of room to charge these kids with murder.

It's not a teacher's job...Her bad judgement cost her.

I was with you up until that point. You lost me when you made it political. Some conservatives get off base when they assume they know exactly how every liberal thinks.

We sure don't like it when liberals apply across-the-board values to all conservatives. While we may mostly agree on the best ways to govern the country, and the states, we have not been cloned.

Granted, we have reason to believe the left supports abortions BUT to infer that they will rejoice over this unfortunate miscarriage is an unwarranted leap.

No. I am very serious. Your overriding concern must be the life of your child.

As a general rule, you should proof read any sentence in which you call someone an idiot.

“”Running in the halls was pretty severely punished “”

Let’s let the old folks here tell us what was NOT allowed when we were in school:

Talking in class
Chewing gum in class
Running in hallways
Being late for class
Not turning in homework timely
Passing notes in class
Cussing - goes without saying (same as in the home)
Interrupting a teacher - goes without saying!! (same as in the home)

WHAT was expected of students:
Addressing the teacher by Mr/Mrs/Miss
Total attention to class subjects
Obeying ALL rules

“Sad thing is that teachers in NYC are told by the admin and by the union NOT to break up fights. Get security to handle it and stay out of the way.”

First and foremost, we are hired to teach, not babysit or break up fights. Besides, have you seen the average teacher? Our school is filled with them - 24 year old rookie teachers and many of the students out weigh them.

That’s what I do - I go about 200lbs former line backer, so I consider myself a faily tough SOB. They get tired after about 60 seconds then I step in and yank them up by the scruff of their uniforms - yes I said uniforms! I teach in a charter school in st louis city - what a dump and some of my students are complete POS. Believe me, you don’t want to get into it with a teenager - they are cat quick. Now granted if you get a hold of them, they are as good as dead.

And there are some on this site that will claim that teachers are overpaid, ha! Try 40K with a masters degree and have to put up with fights on a weekly basis. My administration or students don’t know it, but I wear a bullet proof vest DAILY.

“A pregnant teacher willing to step into a fight - sounds like someone who cares about her students.”

During my 28 years of teaching, I swore I would NEVER intervene in a fight and call on security to stop the fight. However, twice when seeing someone get the crap knocked out of them, the adrenaline kicked in and I was where I said I would never be.
It is really easy to second guess.

If you kidnap someone and they die of a heart attack—that is not murder?
If you are robbing a store and accidentally shoot someone to death—not murder?
Sorry, too much TV law. I guess they should not have executed the Lindbergh baby kidnapper for murder--after all he only dropped the infant while stealing him--didn't mean to cause his death.

“...Your overriding concern must be the life of your child.”

So should pregnant women not drive, walk outside during snowstorms,... where does it end?
I have had more teaching friends miscarry as a result of non teaching accidents. I never knew a pregnant teacher who miscarried due to a school accident.

And it’s a good thought. And God listens.

We were actually expected to dress appropriately.

When I was in school the senior class had T-shirts made up that said something like “Kick Ass Class”. They looked like fools running around with their shirts inside out all day. This was in the early 80s.

When I was in school the only “security” there was to call was a teacher or other faculty.

Show me someone that got the death penalty for driving drunk and killing someone, Ill give you 10 dollars. Not to be arguementve, but that’s not the criteria for a capital case.
