Sarah Palin, the former governor of Alaska, urged Americans not to forget Haiti as she spent the weekend in the earthquake-ravaged country, the Associated Press reported.
The onetime vice-presidential candidate declined to answer questions from reporters at a brief news conference, saying, We dont need to be getting political here today, O.K., folks.
Ms. Palin had joined the evangelist Franklin Graham and his organization, Samaritans Purse, in a tour of the devastation. In her brief remarks, the A.P. said she urged a military airlift of supplies.
I know that theres been some discussion of U.S. aid perhaps being lifted from this area, she said. Again not to get political but if some of the politicians would come here and see the conditions, perhaps they would see a need for, say, a military airlift to come bring supplies that are so needed here.

She seems to be advocating free will donations to help them, but a miltary airlift to enable delivery. I can live with that.
I have not heard her suggesting that more federal (read “your and my”) money be dumped into that rathole
beyond the cost of delivery and distribution.
By the way, note the hate-filled comments by typical leftists at the source article.
Facts and logic doesn't matter when Palin is the topic.
. More evidence that she is an establishment big government politician like all the rest. She is all image (shades of Obama) and no substance. The Sarah worshippers (at least those who beleive she is some sort of advocate of limited government are in for a fall.
Free will??? What is your evidence for that novel rationalization? A more logical explanation, since Saint Sarah DID NOT indicate otherwise, is that these donations will be stolen from taxpayers not "free will."
For the life of me, I can't understand why people don't see the obvious: Palin is a calculating, image driven politician much like Obama. Her instincts are NOT those of a principled advocate for limited government. Her foreign policy views, which are a carbon copy of those advocated by her debate coach, Billy Kristol, also reflect that obvious point.
I figure the best bet would be to take an unoccupied Caribbean island, build your infrastructure there, and give a big sales pitch to parents that their children were going to get a good education, with school uniforms, food, medical care, and that it was all going to be “free”. Just not on Haiti.
Oddly enough, a lot of Haitian parents would probably go for it. According to Factbook, 38% of Haiti’s population (9.6m), is under the age of 14. So a rough guess would be that about 8% of their population is 4-8 years old, which would be the target age. Taking the best of those you have a pool of almost half a million children to choose from.
Starting with a first batch of 50,000, almost all would be voluntary by their parents. Taking 50k new students a year, it would be a decade before enrollment would even start to taper off some.
In other words, getting the children would not be the hard part. The hard part would be sustained funding, and getting a pool of competent teachers.
NOTHING can solve the “Haiti Crisis.”
Haiti is just a bottomless hole of want.

We do not hold popular opinions on this subject.
“Sarah should set the example by donating some of her book millions instead of asking those who are hurting”.
Exactly right. I like the cut of your jib!
How do you know she isn't?
What good will we be to anyone if we don’t take care of business here at home first?
It rubs me the wrong way when people with more means than most of us are constantly telling us how we have to “save the world”. How much is enough? I’m having trouble keeping my own head above water.
Sorry, Sarah. Haiti's problem isn't money. Haiti is doomed because of its communist history and permanently corrupt and impossibly inept government. If we dumped a trillion dollars into the hell hole, it would only end up with more poverty and misery.
And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done [it] unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done [it] unto me.

Sarah Palin is currently not a candidate for POTUS. Why shouldn't she use her renown to get others to contribute to what she considers to be a worthy cause? And what better time to do so than during the Christmas season?

BTW, I’m all for Sam’s Purse, Salvation Army, Catholic Charities and all the other private charities that do such difficult work.
Okay. Understood. Many on this thread seem to think she’s there to get government funding via tax dollars. Samaritan’s Purse is a CHARITY.
So? It is still the correct view. Logical and principled even if it isn’t the “nice” thing to do.

I could write for hours about the way things really are there and how thay got to be that way but the bottom line is in my first sentence.
This will be a shimmering mirage in her rear-view mirror by Wednesday.
