Six American soldiers were killed and more than a dozen American and Afghan soldiers were wounded on Sunday morning when a van packed with explosives detonated beside a small joint outpost in southern Afghanistan.
The soldiers were at a new strong point in a small mud-walled building near the village of Sangsar, north of the Arghandab River, when the bomber drove up to one of the buildings walls and exploded his charge at about 9 a.m.
The blast was easily audible roughly 8 miles away, and sent a dusty mushroom cloud towering over the farmland.
The explosion blasted a large hole in the thick wall, causing the roof to collapse on soldiers inside. Other soldiers quickly arrived and clawed and pulled at the waist-deep rubble to free the buried troops.
The building had been occupied by American and Afghan troops for only a few days, an American official said, and was beside a narrow road. It was not immediately clear how the vehicle managed to approach as closely as it did without being challenged or stopped.
General Abdul-Hameed, a commander in the Afghan National Army, said by telephone that his soldiers had tried to stop the van but that its driver ignored them, drove toward the building and rammed the vehicle against its exterior wall.

Thanks Justaham.
“his soldiers had tried to stop the van but that its driver ignored them”
Isn’t that what your guns are for?
Damn.
Not if you have orders telling you not to shoot.
They were AMERICAN, not “NATO” troops, as expected.
*spit*
Dear God,Prayers for them and their families.
Godspeed, Soldiers...
Very bad.
Still not clear what happened, and we may never get an honest report. But if it’s true that someone told the truck to stop, yet it just kept going, then I have to wonder what the rules of engagement were. And whose idea was it to put their strongpoint right next to a road that was open for use?
We just had a potluck reception in our local community center for three national guard troops from our neighborhood who are just back from a year in Afghanistan. Thank God they got out in one piece. And prayers for our remaining troops there.
Why do they always report NATO troops at first? I knew it... *crying graphic* Prayers
it really pisses me off that they always say “NATO” troops.
Good for you - if there is an obvious example of candy-ass reporting to cover the Obamanator’s ass in this war, it’s this “NATO troop” crap....
America is being played by Obama and “Osama”.
The ROE are being used to deliberately hurt American forces.
I'm sick of it and want to see the truth.
I say bring our troops home or take off all restrains and fight this battle to win.
Amen to that!!!! This is horrible. Isn’t it time to let the troops decide when it’s a good time to shoot or not? I’m totally sick to death of the Washington elite. This is congress fault, they won’t let them fight. To many rules of engagement that end up favoring the terrorist. Innocent civis will always get caught in the middle and end up dying. It’s part of war, you want to cut that down as much as possible. But, not at the expense of our troops.
Must be Obama’s ROEs.....we should nuke every valley and mountaintop in that forsaken country and denude it of people once and for all.
I hate it when they call American troops “NATO troops.” It’s all part of Obama’s campaign to make the US unimportant.
That said, why in the world are we not defending ourselves better against these attacks from local Muslims? Every week we read about an “Afghan policeman” or “Afghan interpreter” or “Afghan military recruit” blowing up or shooting numbers of our people. Why are they allowed to get this close to our forces?
Disasters all abound.
libs will not care, its only bad to them if you can bash the dead over a conservative republicans presidents head. other than that... no concern
