Rather confided to writer Gregory Speck, "Until now I never fully understood the power of the forces behind my axing from the anchor post at CBS News several years back, simply for speaking the truth about George Bush's questionable National Guard service."
Rather was fired in 2006 for claiming Bush had received preferential treatment in the Guard in the early '70s using questionable memos as evidence.
He tells Page Six he'll set the record straight in his book due this spring,

Didn't they try the "fake but accurate" meme also?
Maybe Danny Boy, Jimmuh Carter, and Helen Thomas can share a suite at the Home for Delusional Old Has-Beens, where they can swap stories of being moral and intellectual giants brought low by malevolent, shadowy forces.
Rather actually helped both W and his dad get re-elected. There was the “out of the loop” interview with the senior Bush where W’s father caused Rather to completely lose his cool when he mentioned Rather walking off the set. And of course, there was the forged document fiasco which made most Americans finally realize how biased and deceitful the anchorman and his producer were. Rather did his best to destroy both men, but he actually ended up helping them.
....and destroying himself instead.
The amazing thing is how dishonest Rather, his producer and the MSM have been about the whole thing. If Bush had used the exact same kind of document evidence to justify invading Iraq, CBS, NBC, ABC, AP and every MSM newspaper would have hired their own “experts” to prove the documents were forged. Bush would have been hounded and driven out of office.
They do things that are dishonest and sometimes downright evil and circle the wagons to protect each other. And at the same time they were covering for Rather, they were lying through their teeth about President Bush and Iraq day in and day out and calling him a liar.
If President Bush had done anything this dishonest he would indeed have been hounded and driven out of office.
There is however, comfort in watching the President's reputation and the truth about who he is rebound, while Rather remains in the ash heap of history.
Dan Rather is OBSESSED!
Exactly right!
Please allow me to make a correction to your post.
Dan Rather is OBSESSED POSSESSED BY SATAN!
Within hours of the segment, the authenticity of the documents was questioned by posters on Free Republic...
The first post on FR about the documents came within *minutes*, as noted in post 16 above. That post was 19 minutes after the start of the segment.

Exclusive Interview with the First Known Person to Express Doubts on the Internet About the Authenticity of the CBS Documents
Excerpt:
A little background: the media has reported that a FreeRepublic.com commenter named Buckhead expressed the first doubts on the internet about the (possibly) forged CBS documents. But Buckhead himself correctly notes that the very first doubts were expressed by another FreeRepublic commenter called TankerKC. As Buckhead explained on a FreeRepublic forum board:
“Victory in this case justly has a thousand fathers. Tanker KC first pegged them as fakes by the overall look, and I later noted the font issue. Many other defects have been noted by others.”
There’s several links to references about TankerKC’s part in revealing the despicable Rather spectacle:
At the party, Rather also said, “With President Obama caving in to the Republican demand for a tax freeload for billionaires, I can believe anything.”
