US approval a step toward Russian company control of Wyoming uranium mines

Published on November 30th, 2010

Topics : Nuclear Regulatory Commission , Uranium One , Wyoming , U.S. CHEYENNE, Wyo. - Two uranium mines in Wyoming are on their way to control by a Russian company now that the Nuclear Regulatory Commission has approved transferring the mines' licenses. The NRC last week approved the license transfer to a Russian company known as ARMZ which expects to obtain a controlling interest in Canadian-owned Uranium One by year's end. Uranium One holds the licenses for a proposed uranium mine and an existing uranium mine in northeast Wyoming. The transfer raised concern from Wyoming's congressional delegation, who said the uranium could in theory go overseas and serve against U.S. interests. The NRC continues to prohibit exporting the uranium.

Surrendering US sovereignty is not only an IMPEACHABLE OFFENSE, it is TREASON!

Because “free traitor” ideology still call the shots in DC. That’s why. Doesn’t matter if its Republicans or Democrats. They all line up to sell out America under the banner of the idiocy called “free trade”

Dennis, my dear, "free trade" refers to cutting tariff rates to 0% if another country does the same. Tariffs wouldn't have saved these two mines, we don't have a free trade agreement agreement with Russia, and for that matter, Russia isn't even a member of the WTO.

So in other words, you don't know what the hell you are talking about. As usual.

“Free trade” as defined by the various bullcrap “free trade” agreements we have signed. Such as NAFTA and WTO. You know....The kind that export factories& jobs to China and run up 600 billion dollar trade deficits

The “free traitor” ideology of unlimited commerce between nations is what allows Russians (and other enemies) to buy those uranium mines. Lots of commodity experts say uranium will be shooting up. It already had gained quite a bit

Maybe, in the future. What does it have to do with the Russians buying a Canadian company?

I'm just demonstrating that this is hardly a "trade" issue. The people whining that it is are economically illiterate.

A free trade zone (FTZ) or export processing zone (EPZ) is an area of a country where some normal trade barriers such as tariffs and quotas are eliminated and bureaucratic requirements are lowered in hopes of attracting new business and foreign investments.[1] It is a region where a group of countries has agreed to reduce or eliminate trade barriers.[2] Free trade zones can be defined as labor intensive manufacturing centers that involve the import of raw materials or components and the export of factory products. The world’s first Free Trade Zone was established in Shannon,

Speaking of economic illiteracy, that is a humorous notion . . . if only countries didn’t trade, they’d be poor. And poor is “better.” How poor should the U.S. be, dennis? To make you happy?

That Russian owned uranium (mine) will eventually be allowed to be exported once the right palms get greased in DC. The uranium market is a developed world wide market

How stupid is to set up an obvious straw man argument that I am in favor of no trade. Trade is great but it must be done more on our terms and not in ways that beggar the United States w 600 billion dollar trade deficits. That stuff is for losers and chumps

I am in favor of fair trade. Not the "free traitor" version of free trade

Can you find an example of a “free trade zone,” anywhere in the world, that is a mine? Thanks in advance.

I am in favor of fair trade.

And I'm in favor of pretty women. But when one chooses to go out with another man in favor of myself, I don't blame sex.

One of these mines is in my county and it was owned by a Canadian company that sold to a Russian co. I do not understand why US companies don’t buy the resources we have in this country. Is it more costly for US companies to operate these mines with taxes and regulations?
