Mehlman: Time for GOP to support gay marriage
CNN Ticker ^ | December 10, 2010 | Alexander Mooney

Posted on 12/10/2010 2:50:12 PM PST by Hawk720

Ken Mehlman, the former Republican National Committee Chairman who last summer announced he was gay, says it's time the GOP publicly support same-sex marriage.

Mehlman's new position – once all but unthinkable from the man who ran former President George Bush's 2004 reelection bid – comes more than three months after he shocked many in Washington with his announcement.

But in an interview with the website The Big Think, Mehlman says he has come to believe that supporting gay rights is a logical extension of the principles the GOP seeks to advance.

"I do hope the Republican Party in the future, will look in the mirror and leaders in the party will think about where we stand and say, 'You know what? The party of Lincoln ought to be about letting adults who love each other to be married.' And the party of Lincoln ought to be about giving people more personal freedom," Mehlman told the website, in remarks published Friday.

What’s wrong Ken, getting a little lonely as a “gay conservative”? Didn’t work out like you planned?

Mehlman: Time for GOP to support gay marriage

No, it's time for the GOP to grow some principles, and get rid of the homos.

Gay is OK Ken. I have no problem if you’re “Gay” Ken. You are not “Gay” though and what you really want me to say OK to is not OK anywhere near my children and grandchildren.

There is already a party who was slammed in the last election that loves your “Homosexual” vote. Give it to them Ken, and tell them where you came from.

My religion tells me to love the sinner but hate the sin. I have the freedom to exercise my religion.

Maddening! They just don't stop. It's torture, as if they're bending fingernails back slowly from a plan set up long ago.

They need to stop tearing down the moral fabric of our great nation.

The Republican Party seemingly has an endless supply of spineless towers of jelly. As soon as we take care of one, another one or two pops up. Geez!

I am afraid it is going to take multiple election cycles to clean this mess up.

Hunker down, we have a long fight ahead of us. We are up to the task.

FUKM!

AGREE 100%!

Gay marriage? Just what is that?

My wish is all marriages between a woman and a man should be gay (meaning happy in the original and true sense of the word). It's a shame the homosexuals have destroyed the meaning of what was, in my lifetime, a perfectly fine term.

Nowadays, every time I see the word "gay" in such contexts, I substitute "miserable, sexual deviant". So Mehlman is really advocating marriage bonds between miserable, sexual deviants. Well, simply put, that's an abomination in the eyes of Our Lord! (And mine, too).

Homosexuals may have stolen a definition of a word but they will NOT steal the definition of marriage!

Even Obama doesn’t *officailly” support THIS. I think he should join the Libertarian Party instead, I hear they’re FABULOUS.

How about government getting out of marriage completely and leaving it to the churches?

I'll support there. There's no homo marriage in my church.

Anyone who saw Mehlman on TV could tell he was a flaming sodomite. He needs to repent and leave the deathstyle. The GOP can afford to lose the 500 or so Log Cabin (more accurately: “Bathroom Stall:) Republican votes. Unfortunately, GWB was soft on sodomites, so there was even more infiltration by them of government during his administration.
