How about government getting out of marriage completely and leaving it to the churches?

I'll support there. There's no homo marriage in my church.

Marriage is indeed best left up to the churches. When government began to tax and oversee it a lot of the problems began. By the 1960's government programs through LBJ had taken over many marriages and began destroying many families in the process.

On the other hand I know of very few persons who would want to stand before the Alter in GOD's house acting in a abomination before Him. GOD did not spare Sodom and Gomorrah nor for that matter era 70 AD Rome where morals were abandoned nor if this continues will he spare the United States.

The problem with that is the legal precedent runs the other way. One of the obligations of the federal government is to defend marriage.

Fr’instance, if marriage wasn’t defined by the state, marriage couldn’t be used in the tax laws, couldn’t be used wrt to immigration. States wouldn’t recognise each others marriages.

This is why the ruling is that the federal government has an obligation to defend marriage between one man and one woman, “Christian marriage” as defined by the common law.

Then you get into the whole question of marriage registration and bigamy. If it were left to the churches there would be nothing preventing people from marrying under false pretences. How is a church supposed to access marriage records without the cooperation of the state?

There are no marriages of this type in my church either. The real fact, however, is that this “marriage” argument ties into what the government doles out and subsidizes, or promotes. People can do whatever they please, according to the laws of this nation, so long as its private, and the “rights” of insurance, adoption, and inheritance are already existent, if one desires for them. This is about using the government as a means to advertise and insult religion, and that’s what people are against. Churches should have their own right to a separate morality from the government, so long as sexual abuse or murder, or theft are not part of what it orders out, i.e. disrupting the order of society.
