Is it protocol to address former Presidents as Mr. President??

It was surreal to see Obambi leaving and hear the reporter address Clinton as Mr President. Even if that is protocol..the setting made Obambi into coffee getter.

All except George W. Bush. Seems like they always just addressed him as Bush even when he was President.

No. Only the sitting president is be addressed as Mr. President. Generals, admirals, ambassadors, judges, senators, etc., may be addressed by their former titles throughout their lives, but not former presidents.
