The clock tower at Southern Illinois University has played Christmas carols for nearly 15 years. But this year, someone complained – and that led university officials to briefly silence the holiday tradition until they could add a more diverse selection of music. “We got a complaint about not being inclusive in the music,” university chancellor Rita Cheng told Fox News Radio. She backed off comments she made to a local television station that claimed the music was indeed removed because it was “religious” and “offensive to non-Christians.” “No one really complained about it being religious,”

“We got a complaint about not being inclusive in the music,” university chancellor Rita Cheng told Fox News Radio.

LOL. I've seen deranged bums have conversations like that.

Music is simply sound i.e. vibrations of air.

It can’t be inclusive or exclusive.

1) Could someone name a Kwanza tune??

2) “We have a large number of African-American students at Southern Illinois University and we would want to be as inclusive as we can”

When did black folks suddenly dislike Christmas Music??

"We got a complaint"

"A complaint" ??

Nonsense, and but a half-truth amounting to a lie.

The action would never have been taken based on any single complaint.

The action was taken out of political correctness on the part of those who took the action. The complaint was the "justifiable" (in their minds) excuse for the action - that action, simply to be politically correct - period.

Oh please. It was probably some student with a hangover who didn’t want to listen to the music and decided to make a federal case out of nothing.

Rita Hartung Cheng is best known for co-authoring an accounting book. Not likely she's into pop culture ~ or even music.

Most accounting types are well known for being tone deaf.

Couldn't find a good bio on her ~ maybe I can write one up based on bits and pieces.

Those are always fun!

Maybe “Tubular Bells” will get the U to chime in willingly. H3ll, they could all wear black capes and worswhip themselves on the admin steps. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gZcCxRDtTyM

Then there’s always Hayseed Dixie’s “Hell’s Bells”

After all, Satanists are ‘people’ sort of.

A letter to the parents from my son's 3rd grade teacher came home yesterday, which began, “We are at that time of year again when we are celebrating the Winter Season...bla bla bla.

We are celebrating what? The Winter Season? Not us thank you very much. We won't be sending out Winter Cards,or putting up a Winter Tree, or going to the Winter Candle light Service, or having a Winter Dinner with the family. Christmas is not and will never be taboo in our home.

"I bet if some asswipe got up in the tower and began some muslim call to prayer, they would supply an amplifier."

No doubt....I would bet the university already has or is thinking about installing Muslim foot baths on campus ...Mankato State University (Minnesota) did this in the student union a year ago.
