WASHINGTON Republican senators blocked Democratic legislation on Thursday that sought to provide medical care to rescue workers and others who became ill as a result of breathing in toxic fumes, dust and smoke at the site of the World Trade Center attack in 2001.
The 9/11 health bill, a version of which was approved by the House of Representatives in September, was among several initiatives that Senate Democrats had hoped to approve before the close of the 111th Congress.

“As for your comment about Soros, if that was sarcasm it was too subtle for my limited intellect.”
Again, and with all due repect, I was just demonstrating how the power of suggestion is so easily abused by the media.
Yes, you could say that I was being sarcastic or using an absurdity to illustrate the absurdities of the lamestream media’s bias and complicity in the “shenannigans” of liberal Democrats and liberal extremists in general.

Republicans Block U.S. Health Aid for 9/11 Workers
I went to Thomas and read the final Version of H.R. 847 (there's 5 total and this one is 122 pages) that was just blocked by those evil republicans in the Senate [whom btw hate: 'Women Children, minorities, the poor, Puppies and New York City'] and this *thing* could only come out of the mind of some delusional commieRAT from New York - which it did, Rep Carolyn B. Maloney [NY-14].
Over the next Ten Years $4,590,000,000 of everyone's tax money would be specifically going to (cough) treat those whose 'health'(1) was directly affected by being a 'first responder'(2) and *others*(3). There are also other 'millions' of our money sprinkled throughout the 122 pages to be spent each year that I didn't add up and include in the above. And out of that $4.59 BILLION the US Gubmint (aka: us) will spend, New York City only has to pick up 10% of the costs (like an Insurance Co Rx copay).
Also - and I think this is the best part (/s) - any previous agreements on settlements, or waivers of Lawsuits that the 'victims' made is, Null and Void! WHOOPEE!... another Payday for the 'Jersey Girls'.
Ergo, it's a darn good thing that the republicans BLOCKED this Bill. For one, we (USA) are broke and secondly, so in New York City. So where this pinhead, Carolyn B. Maloney, thought the money would come from to pay for this nonsense (besides raising taxes) beats the heck out of me.
(1) 'Health' problems includes everything from Cancer to Back Aches, Drug Abuse and get this -- Carpel Tunnel Syndrome!.
(2) I hate that term. Its insipid and sissified.
(3) 'Others'. In some cases all one needs to qualify for the program is spending FOUR HOURS in the "9-11 Zones" (Twin Towers, Lower Manhattan, Trash Dump Sites in Staten Island, the Pentagon and Shanksville, PA.)
“anyone know the full story about this bill and the status of the issues?”
The blocking of cloture - end of debate - on this bill has NOTHING to do with the merits of the bill.
But, unless some deal is reached now, before January 1, about the previously approved end of the “Bush era” tax rates, everyone’s taxes will go up, January 1.
The GOP Senate leadership told Harry Reid, after the November elections, that the GOP in the Senate would not agree to ANY legislation, until the issue of the January 1 TAX INCREASES was addressed.
They are sticking to that pledge and blocking all other legislative efforts put forth by Reid.
Reid knew that, beforehand.
He offered the 9/11 bill because it would be blocked, for now, just like all other legislation will be.
He was counting on the media to ignore WHY the bill was blocked.
Which they have done.
My guess is it has several dirty attachments-Dirty harry and princess pelosi are excellent in this field!
In other words, the DEMS, who have a large voting block until January, could not pass it. This is their failure, not the GOP’s.
I never understood this bill. If you were a 9-ll responder, wasn’t that part of your job? And as such, wouldn’t any medical issues arising from doing your job be covered by Worker’s Compensation??
And if you voluntarily helped during 9-ll, wouldn’t that be considered VOLUNTEERING?? And you would not be eligible for COMPENSATION arising from VOLUNTEERING?? Like if you saw someone drowning and you voluntarily jumped in to help and was injured yourself, you couldn’t make that person pay for your injuries?
But maybe it is just me. I could never understand why the US government paid survivors/beneficiaries of 9-ll up to a million dollars?? Isn’t that what life insurance is for??
of course I don’t believe the Psyops in the NY Slimes....
.....but this is a vicious propaganda war being waged by the dirty ‘Rats and the it takes a lot more than just stopping a bad bill to counter-act it
The Demagogues probably don’t even WANT the bill to pass -— it is a set-up designed to produce headlines and stories like this one.
Yep, media capons trotting about the hen house.
Exactly. Obama and the Dems spent their political capital ruining the economy, expanding the Imperial Presidency and paying off their friends.
The GOP plan must simply do the reverse - liberate the economy, reduce the power of the Presidency (czars/tsars in the United States?) including the bureaucracies of the executive branch and restore American’s confidence in government.
You’re right, but the easiest way to undo this is to point out that the Democrats controlled the show for 2 years straight & simply made things worse by plunder and megalomania.
I think many people in the first days should be provided for without a doubt; I have serious reservations about people on those details when they insisted on having X number of firemen on standby to escort remains from the ruins later. People were shouted down when they questioned the expense and safety of that practice at the time, and now they’ll be stuck with the bill for God knows what for people who were NOT first responders or potential rescuers of any sort.
The man the bill was named after (James Zadroga) was from a neighboring town here in northern NJ; they have a nice memorial to him with a quote along the lines of “Don’t cry for me; I was only doing my job”. He was in his mid-30s.
Yes, I’m sure they were paid. I didn’t see you in the hole trying to help - you are as cold and heartless as they come.
Well..now we know that you have a dog in the fight....tap the American taxpayers for doing either your duty or something you volunteered for.....btw I have been in plenty of holes, so don't expect me to sponsor your pity party.....
