Why is it unacceptable? If normal Americans have to be patted down even though they aren’t a threat, why should the Indian Ambassador not be treated the same?

Because she has diplomatic immunity, just as the U.S. Ambassador to India has diplomatic immunity over there.

because of diplomatic immunity. It would be different if he came as private citizen — then he would have to follow the same rules as everyone else.
