(CNN) - Defying President Obama, House Democrats voted Thursday not to bring up the tax package that he negotiated with Republicans in its current form.
"This message today is very simple: That in the form that it was negotiated, it is not acceptable to the House Democratic caucus. It's as simple as that," said Democratic Congressman Chris Van Hollen.
"We will continue to try and work with the White House and our Republican colleagues to try and make sure we do something right for the economy and right for jobs, and a balanced package as we go forward," he said.
The vote comes a day after Vice President Biden made clear to House Democrats behind closed doors that the deal would unravel if any changes were made.
The vote also come less than an hour after Obama himself urged Congress to pass the compromise he struck with GOP leaders earlier this week and warned that failing to do it could cost jobs.
"There is an important debate on Capitol Hill that will determine in part whether our economy moves backward or forward," Obama said at an Export Council meeting. "The bipartisan framework we have forged on taxes will not only protect working Americans from seeing a major tax increase on January 1, it will provide businesses with incentives to invest, grow, and hire."

These people are insane.
They'd rather die than do something good for America. They are all fruit cakes, dope addicts, or mentally addled jerks.
It's good that they were voted out of power so resoundingly. Now we don't need to have anything in the mix that any Democrat would want to get this through the Senate and signed by the President in January.
So, guys on unemployment compensation, say bye-bye to that extra year.

These people want something. I’m thinking a tax credit.
Freeze all taxes now. Give Congress one year to revise our tax system. Approx 47% of households do not pay any payroll taxes. 53% of households pay all our taxes for the other 47%. Something like that.....you know what I’m getting at.
Tell Congress to put a flat tax of 10% on everyone, within a year. It is said that our government will have more money than they would know what to do with. The only problem with this is that the government would no longer have the power over the people by taking the money from the wealthy and giving to those on welfare.

Maybe they’ll vote it down, let the tax rates expire, and then the new Republican congress can make them permanent in 2011.
Without it, our economy will continue to tank at an accelerated pace, and the Democrats will pay a steep price next election. A historically steep price.
If the repubicans mishandle this golden PR opportunity then there is no hope whatsoever for this country’s return from the marxist hellhole it is falling into.

Now conservatives can hold out for a better deal, while bashing libs for the tax increase.
No Estate Tax.
Minimized Unemployment extension.
Close the door on uncapping SSI limits.
Make the current tax rates “Permanent”.
Good, adjourn the dead-duck session and fix it in January.
For all the moonbats who will scream at the take-home in Janaury, you know who to thank.
For it to pass in the current House, a bunch of Dems need to vote for it, and then explain to their electorate why they voted for “tax cuts for the rich”. By kicking it down the road to January, they can retain their purity by having only Republicans vote for it.
The Democrats on Capitol Hill have been in charge sine January 2006, giving cause to the worst recession in many years.
Why would they change their stripes and spots now?
It would be a great improvement, but not enough for my tastes.
I don't agree with the whole concept that the government should have any right to know what wealth you earn or possess. They have no right to pry into the private finances of the citizenry without a warrant.
Some variation of a sales tax would remove their justification for having unfettered access to information about our financial business.
They used to fear Obama, and give him what he wanted.
Then came the midterm route.
Now the fact that Obama wants something seems actually to weigh against it. They may believe if they vote in this so-called ‘tax cut for the rich’ even more of them will lose in 2012.
Or else they’re just sufficiently peeved with Obama to thwart his wishes because they can.
Good news
You see, it's one thing to argue tax policy in the abstract. THAT debate seems to be slowly tipping toward the conservative side anyway.
But, when a particular tax policy (e.g. the Dems') gets applied to EVERYONE's pocketbooks, diminishing not only jobs and government revenues but also reducing every working man's and woman's paycheck ... well, then the debate is no longer abstract.
People vote their pocketbooks (which is why welfare dependents vote for Democrats so faithfully!). The Democratic insistence on raising taxes is about as potent a pocketbook issue for working voters as you can possibly manufacture.
