The Dream Act is a nightmare.
It's one more attack on what is good and right in this country.
You've heard of it, right? It's a plan from the Democrats and the light-in-the-loafer Republicans that would give illegal aliens who came here as minors a green card if they go to college or enlist in the military.
Of course, with the green card they could apply for citizenship and when they got that they would be authorized by law to give their parents, siblings, children and spouses green cards, too.
So sneak your kid across the border, sign him up at the community college to study remedial 8th-grade math, start the paperwork, and get the whole famn damly citizenship.
Thank you, Senor Obama.
It's a bad idea. And it's offensive to our military.
Don't get me wrong. If an illegal alien qualifies to enlist in our military, and serves honorably, in my opinion, that person has earned citizenship. I have no problem with that whatsoever. I would gladly welcome such a person. That person has shown us what they're made of, and they have offered a true service to our Republic. That person is going to make a good American.
I support that part of this, and my understanding is that that part of this, at least in part, already exists.
But to equate going to college with going in the military is an insult to anyone who has ever graduated from Basic Training. They two experiences are polar opposites, and their relationship to society are likewise polar opposites.A soldier is serving society, a student is living off society.
In college, they read books and drink beer and sleep with odd people. They often are on public assistance and the taxpayer either pays or subsidizes their tuition. They don't carry the burden of society, they are the burden of society.
No offense intended, and I've got kids in college myself, but to think that going to college should earn the right of either residency or citizenship is insane. And to equate it to being in the military, by rewarding it in the same fashion, spits in the face of those who've worn the uniform.
It also belies the fact that, for many, "going to college" is just conditioning for the welfare economy. For some, it is an arena of subsidy and dependency. It is 13th grade and it can be taken over and over again, and all of it is at taxpayer expense. Even for students at public schools who pay their tuition in whole, it is the taxpayer who pays most of the cost of their education.
Further, as social programs and education meld into the same thing, the nurture and encouragement and support end up breeding softness, not strength. Many find their way into community college by way of government programs and GED classes. Yes, they are students, but the real impact of this instruction in their lives, on average, might be pretty hard to find.
So what this Dream Act does, essentially, is make a community college program the Home Free square in our game of illegal immigration. That might be a good thing for the care, feeding and recruitment of future Democrat voters, but it's not a good idea from the standpoint of either the college or the community.
Further, this amnesty -- like all amnesties -- does great injustice to legal immigration. Those who obey immigration law have virtually no ability to immigrate. Those who ignore immigration law have virtually no obstacle to immigration. We punish obedience to law and reward disobedience to law.
Which is pretty messed up.
In the ongoing murder of America, as the government and those who control it do everything they can to destroy us, this is just one more step. It is the problem ignored, and then responded to with policies that take us from the frying pan into the fire.
It is also a ploy, a bad policy pushed forward by a political party -- the Democrats -- for the sole purpose of currying favor with a portion of the electorate -- Latinos. It is prostitution, and what's being prostituted is our country.
Immigration is fine, but we are a nation of laws, and laws must be obeyed and enforced. We cannot reward lawbreakers and long expect to be a civilized society.
This dream is a nightmare.
And it needs to fail.
Looks like the dims are just lining up their new voters for 2012. If the illegals traditionally voted republican, the dims would put the military on the border to repel the invaders.

Me: Only then will we find out which jobs Americans really won’t do and how much the pay needs to be increased so that Americans will do those jobs.
Any Repub who votes for this will be gone in their next election. They will hold firm on this one, it would be suicide.

Now, here is an idea for a Dream act... IF an illegal alien then illegally votes, and can prove he/she illegally voted republican, THEN they fast-track to citizenship. Seems to me if 'rats want DREAM, this would be the partisan equivalent.

We don’t have to ship them back. All we have to do is turn off the spigot (welfare, jobs, education, everything) and they will leave willingly.
