Christine O'Donnell on Tuesday compared the "tragedy" of extending unemployment benefits to Pearl Harbor and the death of Elizabeth Edwards. "Today marks a lot of tragedy," O'Donnell, (Snip) "Tragedy comes in threes," O'Donnell said. "Pearl Harbor, Elizabeth Edwards's passing and Barack Obama's announcement of extending the tax cuts, which is good, but also extending the unemployment benefits."

I believe the direct quote was "like bein unemployed is bogus but having like random people pay is like....bogus too. Why should sorta pretty people like have to pay for....whaaaa?"
How dare anyone criticize Christine O’Donnell!
Now be nice...I am one of those who took a job less than I cared to and for far less wages...plus I am hourly now.
What I see happening it’s a situation whee if they didn’t extend these the welfare rolls would surely esculate more than they have already. We all pay either way.
But it would at least be honest about what’s happening. People are collecting welfare.
Unemployment was supposed to be an insurance program that you pay premiums out of your paycheck and collect the benefits if you lose your job, not an entitlement program.
But now unemployment has become another entitlement program in the ever expanding welfare state.
Extending unemployment to 3 years instead of 2 years is just short of criminal but in noway compares to the death of thiousands at Pearl or the tragic demise of Mrs Edwards.
Hyperbole just never works...
The comments on this thread sound like DU.
What is wrong with some FReepers?
Why must we CONSTANTLY attack our own?
When it comes to Christine O’Donnell, FR morphs into DU. If you don’t like what she says, ignore her. If you don’t approve of her positions, attack the positions; don’t make it personal.
She has every right to say what she wants and I will defend to the death her right to say it. Even if no one else will.
Thanks for the ping!
I wish there were this much vitriol for bHo. Wow, they act like she's the anti-christ. You'd think talking about "fundamentally transforming America, 57 states, spread the wealth around," and sprinkling in, "John McCain's never mentioned my Muslim faith" would cause WAAAAY more angst!
The difference is as conservatives we need articulate well thought leaders to advance our beliefs and be able to defend their positions. This gal does nothing to further conservatism in fact she damages the philosophy. The sooner she goes away the better we will be. Sorry if this sounds like I am attacking her but like it or not the national press has glommed onto her as some sort of conservative voice and this can be very damaging.
What does that even mean? I don’t consider a liar as part of the conservative cause that I support.
I was being “nice”; I did say that not everyone on unemployment were slackers feeding at the trough.
This IS welfare! Actually, it would be cheaper to have the unemployed on welfare, than on unemployment.
The longer one gets these freebies, the longer most will refuse to take a job they imagine is beneath them and whatever skills they once have atrophy!
There was once a time when being on the dole ( welfare ) was viewed as being shameful; now, many see it as a way of life.
Three full years of unemployment benefits is unreasonable/insane!
Obviously, you aren’t a part of the group against whom I am railing against, so please don’t take this personally.
--One thing to disagree with or wish one of our own wasn't so visible, but quite another to shove her to the ground and club her bloody....like some here.
Just today a manager of a banquet facility mentioned their place of business, I jumped on the “possibility” of being on call when they are short handed. Do I want to do that...no...do I want to make money..yes. It really is that simple when you are in an area where work is difficult to come by. It means adding those few dollars to the whole and for that “surviving” the downturn in ones life...hopefully temporarily.
Good for you; I applaud your old fashioned ways!
I’m old enough to have lived through several recessions. I also remember how people used to be, which means that they would take any job and/or move to where jobs were, to get one. Today, sadly, that seems to be just “old fashioned”/silly for far too many people, people who would rather take and take and take from the government/those of us who pay taxes.
Working is far more “noble”, or whatever you want to call it, than taking money from others, so one can sit around doing nothing, until a job up to snuff comes along. The government shouldn’t be extending UI benefits to these slackers!
Is getting a job difficult, in today’s economy? For some, yes it is; especially with Obama’s shut down of gulf oil producers.
OTOH, there ARE jobs out there, many going unfilled because of lack of good candidates.
