Why the Tax Bill is a HUGE WIN for the GOP

I don't understand why some people are wringing their hands over this tax bill. Actually, I do. Some people aren't happy to get 99% of what they want. They want everything or nothing. Other people will not be happy, even with 100% of what they supposedly want. They live to be cynical and won't have their favorite crutch taken from them.

Hey... why filibuster when we can compromise down on everything....
We’ll give them gays in the Army but not the Air Force
We’ll give them Cap N Trade on the biggest states only
We’ll give them free abortion on demand only until the last 3 weeks before the due date for everyone older than 11.
Compromise is a WIN! *thumbs up*

in my opinion: better to fillibuster everything in the Lameduck. After JAN 4, the House makes the rates permanent
No. In the meantime, stocks take a dive, the rest of the holiday season is destroyed, and the economy goes south again. And guess who gets the blame?
Often the GOP overplays its hand. On this, they UNDERPLAYED their hand.
Wrong again. Obama has given nearly the entire farm away when he didn't have to. Take it! Come back for the outhouse later.

This was not a tax CUT, it keeps the rates the same.

but then everyones taxes will go up
EXACTLY. and they will go up because the DEMS controlled congress for 4 years and never addressed this matter ... until now at 5 minutes to midnight. They DEMS created a huge mess ... so Boehner decided he must rescue them.
IF the DEMS want everyone's taxes to go up, that is their decision ... and GOP should focus on fixing it after JAN 4.

If this is going to create jobs, i am all for it. Right now the only thing that is important is getting people back to work. so they can get off unemployment.
More people working, more revenue via taxes. We can start paying down the debt. Was this bad? Sure. But the flip side would have been catastrophic.

There are tax cuts for EVERY ONE. There are NO tax cuts. This is only maintaining the current level. We only put a stake in the ground at this point, while the Democrats got to extend unemployment spending. I think they got the better of the deal. Liberal heads explode because they are STUPID.

The death tax is coming back on January 1, 2011 no matter what thanks to the Bush signed on sunset which only gave us one year without the death tax. And it comes back with only a $1 million exemption and a rate of 55%.
Getting 0bama to agree to a $5 million exemption and a 35% rate is huge. This tax needs to go but the Dems were completely content to let it come back at its draconian levels. They know that most of their voters don’t have $1 million in taxable assets unless they have $100 million and can avoid parts of this tax.

Conservative idiots dont see what a great win it is that a leftist President signed onto tax cuts. He got to save face. There are no tax cuts. In fact, all tax brackets stay at their current levels if this is passed. And these unemployment extensions won't create jobs nor will it pay down the debt. The unemployment extensions are nothing more than another layer of government welfare meant for those on it to rely on government. You don't reduce the overall size of government by encouraging growth elsewhere.

“EXACTLY. and they will go up because the DEMS controlled congress for 4 years and never addressed this matter”
they still haven’t addressed it and there’s no reason to assume that they will just because Obama said so. But we have managed to put Obama on the record for supporting the extension even before the GOP takes over.

So who in the GOP will benefit the most from this? Or will it be those who will fill all the new jobs that are going to be created?
Uh, everyone benefits when nobody's taxes go up.

Right now the only thing that is important is getting people back to work. so they can get off unemployment.Extending unemployment benefits won't encourage people to find jobs, in fact it does just the opposite. How much longer do tax payers have to subsidize this sub-class of welfare cases? Those people receiving those extensions are relying on the government to continue extending unemployment insurance because most of them gave up looking for work.

Great! How much is the tax CUT?
Jim, we've been told by conservatives and economists that if Bush's tax cuts are allowed to expire that it would be absolutely devastaing to the economy. This is what has Obama spooked. As conservatives we can't on one hand say "OH, we HAVE to have Bush's tax rates extended! This is vital; otherwise it will be disaster for the economy!", and then turn around and say "Oh, it's no big deal" when we get those tax rates extended. Sure, I want tax cuts, but that is not what we were negotiating. The issue was whether we would have tax RAISES or not, and the GOP just scored an enormous victory over a democratic White House and liberal Congress. This is essentially a mouse making an elephant dance at its whim.

Yeah and Bushs tax cuts were minimal to begin with.
So, you agree with liberals that getting rid of Bush's tax rates won't hurt the economy, right?
