State law gives you 26 weeks of unemployment. The FEDERAL law that was passed when the economy collapsed provided up to an additional 73 weeks of unemployment (depending on the state you live in and the unemployment rate there). Thus, if you lived in a state with high unemployment, ie california, nevadam etc. you can get a total of 99 weeks of benefits. Congress has had to extend the time these benefits were available because when they first thougt up the scheme, they thought the economy would recover due to the stimulus. When that did not happen, they had to keep passing resolutions extending the program, NOT the number of weeks available. The max number of weeks has remained at 99 since they passed the program.
The 99 week federal law EXPIRED on November 30th, meaning anybody who was in one the FOUR tiers would be cut off as soon as their coverage in that tier ended. The new law just reinstates the 99 week rule for another 13 months, it does not add any benefits beyond the 99 weeks.

I was talking w/ a friend today and we were discussing another parallel between Hussein and his true predecessor Jimmy Carter.
Carter was almost as sanctimonious and arrogant as Hussein, and HE also had a majority Congress. Yet, within a couple of years, even his own party was pissed off at him.
Still considering Obamacare a great accomplishment. Still claiming that the health care premiums will go down.
A progressive like him will never admit socialism is horrible. Obama’s dream was turning America into his European utopia

This is why the liberals are so pissed and think Barry got taken............From the Daily Kos, I got this interesting factoid about just how many people have already exhausted their 99 weeks and how many more will exhaust the 99 weeks during the next 13 months.............Just focusing on unemployment benefits—this only funds the four tiers of benefits created thus far, up to 99 weeks of benefits. It does not create another, 5th tier for all of those people who have exhausted the 99 weeks they’ve received, the 99ers. There’s now over two million in that category. Their number is expected to triple over the next year—there will be 6 million people who have exhausted everything by the end of next year.........
