I am confused. MSNBC just announced that the 13 month extension is for existing unemployment recipients. In other words the 99'ers will get 13 months additional unemployment. Yet others on this web site state the extension only allows 13 more months of possible 99 week unemployment.
Can somebody clarify this? Do we have 13 more months of 99 week unemployment or is unemployment now possible for up to 151 weeks?
Thank you
I don’t know why this is so confusing. All this does is fund the tiers that go between 26 weeks and 99. After 99, you’re done.
155ers right?
99 is the limit.....period
This does not apply to all states, though, is that correct?
I’m pretty sure the 99ers will have to finally look for work, as much as some of them don’t want to.
The benefits don’t increase. The eligibility period increases.
Wait until libs find out what this unemployment extension is all about-just a 13 month extension of what’s already in place-not an added 13 months to the 99 month allowance. They’ll be even more apoplectic.
I don’t even think the DBM gets it - but that’s not too surprising. They don’t grasp much beyond what a 6th grader can understand, esp. when it comes to economic issues.

At what number of weeks does the term become so awkward that we switch over to “wards of the state”, because it rolls off the tongue better?
1. The "normal" time limit for anyone collecting unemployment benefits is 26 weeks.
2. Within the last couple of years the Federal government passed legislation temporarily extending this limit to a total of 99 weeks.
3. This temporary extension was due to expire on December 31, 2010, at which point the limit would have gone back to 26 weeks.
4. Under the terms of the deal announced yesterday, the 99-week limit will be extended for another 13 months -- until December 31, 2011 (or somewhere around that).
Correction on that last post of mine . . . the original 99-week limit was due to expire somewhere around this time of year — not necessarily December 31, 2010. In fact, for some people the 99-week limit may have already passed in the last week or so . . . which makes me wonder if maybe the original expiration date was November 30, 2010. This would explain why the extension has been described as 13 months instead of 12 (the math didn’t work out in my last post).
Fox News just announced the 13 months is added to the 99 weeks. So they are saying you can now get over 150 weeks of unemployment.
I am still confused.
I am proud that I have never collected a Penny, never sucked off the Government teet. There is always some type of work available for those who are not too lazy to do it.

I got a government check every month for 4 years. It started at $69 per month, yep, per month. At the end of the 4 year period, I was making about $300 per month.
Ah, I won't leave you thinking I was a government moocher - I'm a vet.
Neglecting the federal extensions, the basic UI program is a state program funded by the employers. It is insurance, not sucking off the government teet.
They are incorrect. That would require a Tier 5 extension which is not what has happened now. This will only pay through tier 4 which is 99 weeks max.
I was jerked from my hometown and transported half-way around the world. At the end of my enlistment I was still thousands of miles from my home town. UI helped my get on my feet back in my hometown. Nothing about being lazy.
Those individuals hoping to get one month past 99 will be disappointed, as will the news outlets giving incorrect information.
