South Floridians woke up Tuesday morning to temperatures hovering around the very low 40s that sometimes felt like the mid-30s because of the wind chill factor.
In Fort Lauderdale, a low temperature record of 42 degrees for Dec. 7 that had been in place for 169 years was broken, said Dan Gregoria, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Miami.
"It was at 7:24 a.m. when the temperature reached 40 degrees," Gregoria said.

That’s the problem with insert fireplaces and woods stoves.
They are either on or off. :)
I saw nothing, (in the post) pointing out that it was Because of Pearl Harbor Day that the record was special.
(I don't read the Slime Sentinel)
5 degrees warmer here in PA, and it feels cold. Get your scarf out.
I pass.
I was just making a little pun on your screen name.
Try not being so offended, it will do your heart good.
P.S.
May God bless you and your loved ones as much as He has blessed me and mine.
The climate summit is in Cancun which isn't very far away from Fort Lauderdale.
Sorry Graybeard58
The guy did piss me off though.
It was a simple question and not without merit 8)
25 was for you - I addressed it to myself for some unknown reason.
Yeah, the farms area always gets much colder than the coast. Downtown Orlando got to around 35 I think. Definitely colder than it usually is this time of year! We don’t usually get this cold until January, if at all.
Even one year it snowed in Miami.. melted before it hit the ground BUT it did snow..
I saw it...
The absolute worst is the chickens. They stink up my whole barn in just one night.
The only one that seem to love the weather is a horse I just purchased from the north. My Florida animals were not happy campers.
I have mini donkey and mini cow who are best friends, so I put them in the same stall.
Well, they dug about a 3 to 4 foot deep hole last night and were all cuddled up this morning. So, now I have that to fill in today too.
The work of a farm girl is never done!
Chickens are such nasty creatures. We’ve got quail and a few pigeons, and just have to turn a heat lamp on in their coop when it gets cold. Would hate the thought of torturing the other animals with their smell. ;)
Do you use your mini-cow for milk? If so, how much do you get per day? I’ve been entertaining the idea (and trying to talk my husband in to) getting a mini-cow, but we basically live on a big sand hill and have my doubts that the quality of grass production could sustain even one cow on the 5 acres we have.
I just saw the forecast for Gainesville, it’s supposed to get down to the low 20s tonight with wind-chill in the teens.
UF students aren’t used to that for their walks to class, that’s for sure.
She will give about 3 1/2 gallons a day at her peak, but she is down to about 1 1/2 now. I need to get her pregnant again. However, the mini bull I was using down the street died, so I either need to find a bull locally, buy sperm, or buy a bull(my last choice)
They are real easy keepers, and very sweet. She is mainly on pasture, but I do give her a little hay and grain.
Well, there’s the other problem. I don’t know what I’d do with even 1 1/2 gallons per day. There’s just so much time in the day for making cheese, butter, ice cream, etc. on top of a regular job. Ho hum. I’ll keep thinking about it. :) Right now I’ve got a woman down the road that I can get milk from, so I don’t have a whole lot of incentive.
I grew up in Jupiter, by the way.
That snow event was in ‘77 or ‘78. I was living in Miami and it was only flurries, but a huge deal for the folks who had never seen snow before.
“WHY is Dec. 7th Cold Record special besides being Pearl Harbor Day?”
It’s the coldest day for this early in the season on record?
I don’t need that much either. It’s really easy when she has a calf. I just take what I need, and the calf takes the rest. I don’t have to milk her unless I need milk. However, the calf has been weaned and sold now. So, it’s just me until I get her pregnant again, or let her dry up.
Also happened sometime in the 60’s.
I know because I was still in high school.
Walked out of the house and all the autos were covered .. in snow!
First time I’d ever seen the stuff.
