Dan Rather says if President Obama compromises on extending the Bush tax cuts, he will face a "political nightmare" of a primary challenger in 2012.
Rather says "many contributors" to the Democratic party are in shock and Obama only has 4-6 months to turn things around before they consider another candidate.

LOL. If the guy can’t even win in his own state, I’m not sure how serious a presidential candidate he can possibly be.
More pearls of wisdom from gunga dan the news man.
You forgot to mention Marx, Lenin and Stalin.
and with any luck it will be Dan....that would be fun!
Rather/Olbermann ‘12.
COURAGE!
Lyndon Johnson/Eugene McCarthy. Resigned.
Gerald Ford/Ronald Reagan. Defeated.
Jimmy Carter/Ted Kennedy. Defeated.
George H.W. Bush/Pat Buchanan. Defeated.
Barry Obama/?
A Leftist third party challenge or strong Democrat party challenger would be the best scenario for the election of a real conservative like Palin.
This is the type of third party candidate I can believe in. The Left is growing weary of 0bama mostly because of his core incompetency. 0bama does not know the art of deception is mandatory for the political survival of Leftist even in a waning republic. 0bama has failed to “look tough” or play the populist well enough like that rascal slick Willie.
It’s not enough to be ruthless. A Leftist must be ruthless but also smart enough to appear compassionate.
I like what you say except for Bloomberg. He would stand no chance of winning and he would draw votes from Independents. RATS would all vote for the Head RAT but remember what happened 2000—Ross perot enabled Bill Clinton to become President with less than 50% of the vote.
I say the dems should give Haywire Howard Dean another go.
1992, but point well taken.
Typing too fast! ;)
Rather might be correct, but a from-the-left challenge would only AID Obama in staging “triangulation.”
LOL Thanks for the laugh. Dan Rather was to be the new Edward R. Murrow: leftist, arrogant, one-sided, biased propaganist—but without a fully functioning brain.
A Democratic Party that ditched the incumbent, first-ever black President in favor of some white alternative would be cutting its own throat with its single largest voting bloc. Some marginal alternative candidate may run, but the Democratic Party establishment must back Obama. Better for them to lose in 2012 and live to fight another day than to alienate black voters.
For better or worse, they're stuck with the Zero in 2012.
Just goes to show ya - ya never know.
Agreed. I don’t think there will be a challenger but if there is the likelihood of a candidate to the left of the president on taxes, and a candidate from the right are about equal.
That’s a very good point. The big difference is that Nixon never served as governor of California, while Feingold was a long-standing incumbent U.S. Senator who got thrown out on his @ss in November. I think the two different scenarios have far different implications for the future political aspirations of the people involved.
